  • Positive Start to New Season

I'll take a 23-point win to open the season!
From the score at the half to the final buzzer, appeared the game was well in hand for most of the night.

Kind of ironic that Mr. Pickett's 23 points were the margin of victory.
I only saw the last 8 minutes on the stream, so I didn't get a good feel for how we played the whole game, but in the limited time I watched, Tyshon is going to be a BIG boost for this team - very confident, tough, finds his way to the hoop. Walt looked like he was in a bit of a funk, and Snell pointed that out too. He'll bounce back though.

Let's keep the momentum going into Monday's game vs. TX Pan-Am.
Pleased with the final score, though Eastern IL is in a rebuilding year too.

Great team basketball. Great hustle and enthusiasm. Great distribution of minutes. Things are starting to come together, Pepper!

First let me say that Eastern is not a very good team but let me give you a few of my observations.

      1.) Great teamwork no selfishness
2.) People diving on the floor with a 20 pt. lead.
3.) More assists tonight than in any one game the last couple of years or at least it
      seemed like it.
4.) JC looked like he might give us some quality minutes.
5.) Boy is it great to have Will and TP inside.Thats a big improvement over the last
      couple years.
6.) What can you say about Jake 1 pt.and he was one of the most valuable players on
      the floor.
7.) Added depth great to have SS,JP and JC coming off the bench
8.) Didn't see anyone drooling but it sure was more fun to watch then what we've seen the last 3 years. And it's just going to get better

It doesn't matter that EIU is not a good team. These are the types of teams we struggled with last year (remember SIU and Loyola anyone?!). This year these are the types of teams we should win easily over at home, at the very least. We may still struggle this year, but at least we need to start beating teams like this consistantly, which we did tonight.

I second the added depth and TP/Will. Just having them could give this team about 5 to 8 more wins this year.

Great to win a game like this to start the season. Well done boys!

TP's bio says that he has a 4 year old brother, I think we should start recruiting him now...

TP played a very solid game. I look forward to him matching up against bigger and more skilled post players in future games.

Yes, so am I. He was dominant at times, but Eastern was a team a lot like Upper Iowa and Parkside that has no size or athleticism to speak of. They played most of the game with 3 or 4 guards, none of which could dribble, pass, or shoot a lick. Their starting 5 had 2 assists for the game and were 12-32 from the floor, and their subs were even worse. They did not appear to have a center or power forward on their roster- Josh Piper, their biggest player is listed at 6'8", but was closer to 6'6" and rarely went inside near the basket, and their other starting "forward" Blanford also appeared smaller than the 6'6" he's listed at. Bradley had a 36-18 advantage in points in the paint, and a 35-25 rebounding advantage. We may not see disparities like that very often this year, but it's nice to take advantage when we can. I was happy to see a game plan to exploit the mismatches inside. And, a number of other teams we will play in the pre-conference are similar teams without skilled big men, so I hope we continue to take what teams can give us. I don't expect TP to be so dominant against some of the better teams coming up, but I expect the team to show a better perimeter game when needed.

Tyshon's juco teammate RJ McGhee picked up 3 of his fouls guarding Tyshon -- which shows they had nobody else if they're using a thin guard to match up on him..

Had a terrible flashback last night as Will aggressively drove to the hoop for his dunk. Pretty much the same spot on the floor where his first ACL gave out. Looks like he's all the way back physically and mentally. Great to have him back.

                      Good game to build on.

Listened to game on WMBD while in BF.com chat room. Great to be back.

Best part about last night's game was it sounded like BU didn't settle for outside jump shots. Kept working it inside.

Won't be as easy against bigger/better teams, but, good to see them focusing on it.

W's are W's... The blow out win was indicitive of the opponent; BU actually blowing out EIU was indicitve of how far they have come from early last year!

Much more encouraging/fun to talk about a blow out win over an inferior opponent, than, an embarrassing loss to an inferior opponent
                      UMKC anyone?

Granted it's just one game and it was against a team that's not very good but how many times have we struggled against a team like that over the last few years. It was nice to watch a blowout in our favor for a change. I'll be curious to see when we play better teams if we can move and pass the ball as effectively as we did last night. At least for one game it was a joy to watch.

Why are we making excuses for our good play? I'd much rather save the excuses for when we lose.

Playing better teams will make it more challenging yet as long as we move the ball by multiple passing with less dribbling there is no reason why we cannot be more successful.
