    The mascot does not have to connect to Braves for one. Look at all the mascots in baseball that have nothing to do with their team's name (ie. Philly Fanantic and SF has Lou Seal)...

    The real reason for a mascot is for merchandising and kids and for that it is a good thing for revenue generating.

    The second aspect is for branding and in this case you could argue both ways fairly easy.

Correctly in my mind would be to have a fierce looking creature with a unique name (Gilly the Gargoyle) dressed with a BU shield or something like that. It would be nice if the University then would create some online games around the creature to give it life for the younger generation.
