however he's an amazingly hard working guy and charitable as well...and he never forgets a friend..
Dick also did some camps and clinics for kids up in Chicago over the summer as well as the Mitchell Anderson & Hersey Hawkins camps in Peoria.....and he reportedly does not ask to be paid

How can you throw Coach K in there? I haven't ever seen him tied to any inpropriety at all. With the incident this summer I can't find a shred of a piece of evidence that Coach K was in the least bit involved, and save that he has been known to be an incredibly clean coach, at least comparitvely. I hate Duke as much as the next guy, but Coach K is up there with Izzo as the best clean coach.

Versace doesn't belong anywhere near those two. The difference between Versace and the other guys you mentioned wasn't that he got caught, they have too, but Versace coached for small, private, mid major, instead of a big, public, powerhouse. I am glad Versace is gone, but I do wish similiar fates upon Calhoin and Calipari.

Fair point amckillip. K has a reputation of being one of the good guys. I would put him more in the category of top rule benders. He stretches the rules right up to the limit and rarely makes a mistake (but he did last year with a kid named Poythress who's going to UK). It's Coach K's ability to understand and stretch the rules, coupled with his motivational and superior coaching skills, that make him one of the top three coaches of all time.

Not taking anything away from Versace, but Forddy Anderson and Chuck Orsborn would rank higher than Versace in this category.

the only thing Dick was "caught" at was not answering the pesky NCAA employee's questions - he was never shown to have lied or offered a "mistruth"..and it was obvious to all that they were gonna nail him even without evidence...

....even so - the very worst thing NCAA had found to accuse him of was that BASED ONLY ON the word of a terribly disgruntled ex-player - they claimed Versace tried to help out the father and family of Anthony Webster by putting him in touch with someone who could offer a job, and by allegedly paying for a phone call & cab fare..
The sum total of ALL that was alleged to have been offered or given to the Websters wouldn't have bought lunch for Rick Majerus - yet the NCAA still brought the hammer down on BU with penalties more in line with what Kelvin Sampson or Dave Bliss should have gotten!

They had tons of stuff on violations that occured under the Versace watch. When confronted with this information Versace lied to the NCAA, he has admitted to it.

To even hint that he is Bradley's best coach is laughable. What we don't need is Versace or anyone like him associated with Bradley.

"tons of stuff on violations" is not entirely true. The NCAA identified only a few violations. The most damaging violation was Versace's failure to comply with the investigator, Janet Justice, and newly hired lawyer who was trying to make her name at the NCAA. But that was enough for the NCAA to hit Bradley with severe penalties.

It was never a secret that Abegg and Versace did NOT get along. This gave Abegg everything he needed to rid himself of a nemesis that was acheiving a higher profile than him.

I just resist the argument of saying DV lied - maybe he did but it was NOT proven nor conclusive - don't we all have that tendency -- but...
even the official wording of the NCAA judgement danced all around that issue and NEVER said he lied...
they said he did not "deport himself" in the manner that they expected him to, that he declined to answer questions, and that he changed his story -- so just maybe he was trying to tell them what was true and they simply chose not to buy it..
Funny how everyone else gets the benefit of the doubt but they threw the kitchen sink at Dick - it was obvious there was a desire on the part of the field investigators to make a name for themselves...this is well known...

Couldn't agree more. The Kool-aid drinking, and double standards on this topic are (predictably) ridiculous.
