RPI is an interesting statistic.
I remember being young and wondering why a 'bcs' school got in and a 'mid-major' did not.
Well, the polls said so-n-so was better, that's why. So it was subjective. Then opinions came under fire. So...
Along came the RPI to show to everyone why...
It all made sense. You take a team from the ACC with an in-conference record of 7-9 because of their RPI. You take the 6th team in the B10 because of their RPI.
Fast forward to present day.
The MVC has figured out how to cheat the formula. (that alone is laughable)
The formula is EXTREMELY SIMPLE. Digger/Packer and all the rest of the BCS-Zombies - pay attention!
It is all about who you play, where you play them and how good they turn out to be.
Scheduling is an art. You need to help mold the team you expect to have. And you need to look into the future on everyone else and try to find the best fit for your team at that time - then try to schedule them. And that is a pain in the arse, I am sure.
So we are going to hear how the Mountain West has 'cracked the code' this season. Or how the MVC was a fluke.
Currently, there are 4 conferences with 8 or more wins against BCS conferences.
The question becomes who did you play and where.
