Barry Hinson's a funny guy....
yesterday in front of the press on MEDIA DAY - he said this when mentioning that they only have nine players for full court practices due to injuries and suspensions.......
"First-year SIU men’s basketball coach Barry Hinson mixed his message of
opportunity with a small plea for help at Tuesday’s Media Day.
If you have some collegiate eligibility left....the Salukis may have a uniform for you..."
also here's more on their new 2013 verbal...

SIU just landed another recruit, Barry Hinson's 5th for the class of 2013-
Mike Balogun, a 6'1" sophomore shooting guard at West Hills (CA) Community College, verbally committed to the SIU yesterday.
SIU won their exhibition game Saturday night over Lincoln University of Missouri 83-47.
stats-
Wyoming transfer Desmar Jackson lead the Salukis with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Jackson played but was not allowed to start because he had "skipped class on Thursday and missed an event on Friday morning".
I guess Barry isn't going to punish him for his arrest for theft in August, and his DUI in September, or his other several legal issues since he arrived in Carbondale.
SIU was already down to just 3 frontcourt players- Dantiel Daniels, Antonio Bryer, and Davante Drinkard.
And Dantiel Daniels didn't play in the exhibition with what was initially called a groin strain. However, in what may be really bad news for Barry Hinson, it may be much more serious-
"Hinson acknowledged that he's worried that projected starting forward Dantiel Daniels may be out for the season with an injury."
In typical Barry Hinson humor, he also added-
"If you had taken a poll of our fans before the game, would the Salukis have won by 36, I guarantee 99 percent would have said no," said the always colorful Hinson. "The one percent that would have said yes would have just come from Midlands and been drunk as a skunk."

the blowout simply shows the difference between the typical D-I athletes and D-II's...
and I am puzzled about Desmar Jackson - since he was caught in the same act of theft as Diamond Taylor, has the exact same court dates, and also (like Taylor) Jackson has numerous other prior and pending legal problems in Carbondale.
So why was Taylor suspended and Jackson allowed to play - only Barry knows...?
also - since this was an exhibition - why didn't projected redshirt freshman Bola Olaniyan play - he would have been allowed to play per NCAA?

Mundelein has played top competition and even went out west to play in the premier Holiday basketball tournament in the nation in San Diego...
and O'Brien is scoring 19 ppg, 13 rebs (he had one game of 19 rebounds), and 9 assists
- and he really has no other real talent on his team and is carrying the load against constant double and triple teams
Maybe BU maybe shouldn't have backed off after Zecevic verbaled, as O'Brien appears to be a more versatile player...
O'Brien could be a good get for Barry Hinson
