  • Former Bradley player Anthony Thompson signs pro contract

I am not sure what this means, but Anthony Thompson appears to have signed with the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League. Congratulations AT!

The Toros website does not have any news since June-

I feel like I know nothing about basketball after reading this...

(Which unfortunately might be more true than I wish)

I've got to imagine that guys who sign a contract still have to try out and make the team. Good luck AT!

He has confirmed it is the Austin Toros...and their web site now lists Anthony on the roster...
Congrats to yet another BU Brave getting the chance to play pro...

There is no guarantee as the Toros are planning on still adding several players via the D-League draft which starts in a couple hours...
then some players may yet be cut after training camp but...AT is the TALLEST player and the only true center...

Adam Koch is currently on the Bakersfield Jam and a couple other MVC guys are registered and will be available for the draft tonight...
PJ Cousinard, Josh Crawford, Jordan Eglseder, Kenny Lawson, Toure Murry, ex-Geno Ford player Carlton guyton from Kent St., Paris Parham's nephew Tim Parham, and ex-BU recruit Diante Watkins

The Austin Toros only have 4 forwards listed on their roster, and none of the other 3 are true post players and none are as tall as Anthony Thompson. 2 of the forwards, JaMychal Green and Tyler Wilkinson are power forward types, and Wes Witherspoon is a small forward/wing forward type. So maybe AT has a chance to make the final roster?

I also notice a couple other former BU recruits on that roster- Kyle Weaver was about to commit to Bradley a few years ago, but then he got a scholarship offer to Washington State and had a great career there. Wes Witherspoon also was high on Bradley but then chose Memphis. They also have Luther Head of Illinois, and Justin Dentmon, from Carbondale, formerly a commit to ISU who decommitted and ended up at Washington.

The D-League draft can be followed live...

Wichita State's toure Murry was picked 15th in the 1st round by the Toros...then with pick #1 in Round 2 the Iowa Skyforce picked ex-Creighton Bluejay Kenny Lawson

Interesting that Toure Murry will play for the same team, the Austin Toros, that BU's Anthony Thompson just signed for...
and they have been lifelong friends and played high school basketball together on the same team, Houston Klein Forest

This has to be a "sign a local player or three to drive up attendance" move. Thompson has no business playing basketball beyond his local YMCA.

I would think it was just a bad joke. If he couldn't get minutes on our team last year how in the hell can someone sign him. Just proves Texas is a Football state must have run out of kids to play bastketball. If it's true I wish him well. ya jus never know???
