I read in the Wall Street Journal this morning that Rich Lavin will retire as 'Group' President at Caterpillar at the end of the year.
Lavin is on the Bradley Board of Trustees. His son Brian, was a member of the Bradley BB team that went to the Sweet 16 a few years ago.
I wonder if Lavin will remain on the BU Board? It sure appears that he will have more time for it now! However I assume that BU will want a CAT rep on the Board (I don't know if Lavin will continue to 'fit that bill' in retirement.)
For those who don't remember Lavin as an athlete, Rich was a member of the Spalding basketball teams that finished 2nd and 4th in the State Tourney in consecutive years (1969 & 70)
Lavin was also the QB on the Spalding football team and went to Northwestern on a football scholarship. After two years at Northwestern, Lavin transferred to Western Illinois-where he played TE.
He was drafted in the NFL (by the SF 49ers-15th round) but I'm not sure if he ever played a regular season NFL game.
Edit: I see in Brian Lavin's BU BB Bio that his father Rich also played for the NE Patriots in addition to the 49ers
