  • Red & White Scrimmage - Confusion reigns!

No one really seems to know when the mens BB Red & White Scrimmage will start. Apparently, according to the Athletic Dept., the start time depends on how long the womens volley ball game is---3 games or 5 and then how long the womens BB scrimmage lasts. There is also a 50 year alumni reception from 5:30-7:30 at the Alumni Center but then who wants to sit thru an hour and a half of womens volleyball and a womens BB scrimmage prior to the R & W? Could grab a pizza after the alumni thing but what time should we show up at Ren. Col. for the Red & White?

Terrible planning and not very well thought out by the Ath. Dept.

This was obviously done on purpose by the athletic department in an attempt to get more fans to the volleyball game and women's scrimmage that would otherwise just attend the men's scrimmage

Every year BU bkb seems more like a money grub. If season tickets sales are down, let's suck some more $ from the diehards to make up for it. Let's keep them in the Coliseum for hours so they will buy more concessions. Let's make parking a b**ch so they will buy 1st level parking. Let's charge admission.

While we're at it, let's add games to the schedule that are not on the season ticket package. Let's limit the number of halftime acts. Let's lose the media guide.

The problem is, we're losing most of our games. Fix the problem on the floor, then you will have a product where you can bring home the cash. Until then, the gratuitous money-suction looks pretty sad.

        Bush league.

Buesch -- at the risk of being labelled a stooge of the administration - let me answer --

-the media guide was due to new NCAA actions - http://cosida.com/news/2010/1/15/0115104829_574.aspx

-parking at Renaissance is and likely will remain free

-the games added were IN ADDITION to the full slate of 16 games downtown at Carver Arena - they were a BONUS - they were not making you pay extra for something you should have had in the season ticket package.

-as you know the games on campus whether in the old Fieldhouse or in Renaissance - have ALWAYS been charged separately from the season tickets

-and I fully agree that moves made which result in horrible performance ON THE FLOOR - are not what the fans truly want even though some of those moves were demanded by certain clueless fans. (translated: Fallout)

I miss the Red and White at the Fieldhouse when the Marquee event (and mostly only event) of the night was the MBB Scrimmage.... I wish they would do it this way at the RC. Also, I heard that it was cut down to about a 20 minute scrimmage? That seems a bit ridiculous. I know some family members of mine will not be attending because of how late it could start (possibly 9 pm). I'm going to try to make it but it's not exactly the best planning to create excitement for a team that played horribly last season.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

is it really a 20 minute running clock?

why not 1 half of regular basketball...then again who cares we suck!

I have to agree with the majority on this issue as with the mens team finishing last 2 seasons in a row how does the University expect to get much attendance when you have 2 womens events before the mens event and no time on when the mens team will actually come on the floor, if they believe fans are going to sit thru quite possibly 5 volleyball matches in order to see just 20 minutes of basketball they are seriously mistaken, should at the least give the fans a full 40 minute game and should have a a real starting time.
To me it seems like every season they have made the red-white scrimmage more of just a fundraiser then an actuall fan event.

For those upset with BU's Administration for combining this event with WVB and WBB let me tell you that Wake Forest (of the mighty ACC) is holding a similar event with WVB and WBB this weekend.

Maybe Bradley and Wake can join the same D-2 conference.

                      Maybe that's why Fields left?

are you sure?? because that's not what Wake Forest is saying...their event is quite different..
the Volleyball game is at 5PM and will be long over and done and the gym will be cleared out..
then at 7:30PM the doors open and the men's basketball team scrimmages at 8PM.

...so it differs from our event in at least 3 ways...
-the VB game is way earlier (5PM) and will be over and done long before the basketball events start.
-then the doors open at 7:30 and the men's scrimmage starts at a defined time - 8PM and thus the basketball event is a separate event at a defined time.
-lastly - the event is TOTALLY FREE of charge.

Here is the relevant part of their release for this weekend's event...

"Wake Forest fans will get their first look at the 2012-13 Demon Deacon men's and women's basketball squads on Saturday, Oct. 13,
as the teams will host "Black & Gold Madness" at 8 p.m. in Reynolds Gymnasium.
Admission to Black & Gold Madness is free and open to the public.
                        Doors open at 7:30 p.m....

After being introduced to the crowd, the men's and women's teams will each play 10-minute scrimmages.
Both squads will square off in a 3-point shooting contest, and the men will host a dunking competition.

..Black & Gold Madness will follow the Wake Forest volleyball game against Clemson, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Reynolds Gym"

Lastly - just a couple examples of what some Wake Forest fans think of this...
..I guess this proves miserable, whining personalities exist just about everywhere - and they're only two years into the hiring of a NEW head coach!
"Kinda sad that we have to give away T-shirts to get people to attend. I remember the days when we
camped out for this game outside the gym. Good ole days of Wake B'Ball. A fading memory."

"Just getting really hard to support Wake Forest Sports. In a very short time we have hired an idio*t
as a head basketball coach, who then ran off most of the players, we have a head coach who is getting lazy
and now doesn't even control his own team
.. This team was getting hard to be excited about before this-- now I just don't know.."
(this particular discussion degenerates into an argument over why they didn't play Omari Grier)

"don't most ACC schools do this at midnight? ..I wish they had something a little more exciting
than a chance to win textbooks"

and several threads about their head coach being on the hot seat...

                          Ok...hold the phone.

You mean a volleyball game starting @ 5p is "way earlier" than starting @ 6p.

I'm so confused...they expect people to miss highschool football games, prime time TV, and facebook time for some warm ups, a 10 minute scrimmage, and a 3 pt contest?

                          HOLY HELL!!!

So these are the timelines as I see them:

                          Wake Forest________________________Bradley
                          5p-7ish: Volleyball Game______________6p-8ish: Volleyball Game
7:30p: Doors Open___________________8ish: Nets down WBB warm up
                          8p: WBB Warmup/10 minute scrim_______8:15ish: WBB intro/20 min scrim
8:30ish: MBB Warmup/10 min scrim______8:45ish: MBB warm up
                          8:50ish: 3pt contest/dunk contest______9pish: intro/20 minute scrim
                          9:15ish: Fans go home________________9:30ish: 3pt. contest/dunks(?)
                          ___________________________________9:50ish: Fans go home

So what is it...all the "ish"? Is it that BU doesn't have its very own "close the doors/open the doors" timeline? Whats the deal? The only reason that the BU event will go longer is that both teams play 20 MINUTE GAMES instead of a paltry 10.

I know it can't be that you may have to watch a little volleyball, right? I mean what red-blooded American male doesn't like to see tall, athletic females wearing short, tight shorts?

How about we started another thread that whines about this event.

Don't like it...don't come. But don't expect it to change if you don't support what they are providing.

Here's another thought my wife just threw me...she said, "Tell those guys to go have a beer, show up around 8:30, and quit their b*tchin'".

Not sure about your wives...but mine is always right.

                            Thanks honey.
