This is a story you have to read, about a high school football game in California. Not only did this team score twice in the final SIX seconds to win a game, there's even a funnier twist.
The losing coach literally had the game in the win column, and all he had to do was let the clock run out, but decided to go for a meaningless TD just to put more numbers on the board.
He actually succeeded and DID get the touchdown he wanted, but it cost him severely.
With only 40 seconds to play, the coach of Bloomington (CA) High School could have "taken the knee" to run out the clock in an apparent 24-17 win, and the opponent had no time-outs.
Instead, the coach got "greedy", and successfully ran a play to score a touchdown, pushing the score to 30-17 but leaving those 40 seconds on the clock. He should have killed those last 40 seconds, because what happened next is the unbelievable part.
The opponent, La Quinta HS, first stopped the two point conversion to keep the score at 30-17.
Then, as fans were leaving the stadium thinking the outcome was foregone, La Quinta controlled the ball for a nice TD drive that consumed all but 6 seconds.
With 6 seconds to go and down 30-24, La Quinta kicked off, recovered their own ON-SIDE kick, and had time for one more play.
They threw the "Hail Mary" and scored, then kicked the PAT,
winning the game 31-30.
By greedily going for that last touchdown, Bloomington gave up possession of the ball and never got it back, and lost the game as a result.
What a turnaround!
