  • 7 down, 24 to go ...

I have two questions for everyone with about 1/4 of the season in the books...

1.) Now that we've had some ups and downs, how has the team fared according to your PRE season expectations?

2.) Where do you think is a realistic finish for this team the rest of the way?

I know it's early but I'm just curious what people think.

Overall I think that we've exceeded pre-season expectations so far. Many people thought we'd have a losing record and I just think we play way too well at home for that to happen. How good our record is overall will really depend upon our play on the road (this wasn't a good start tonight).

I expected this team to be near .500 and still expect a little above that with the quality of players we have. I never had the delusions that this is an NCAA team but I've also never thought they were going to be bad either. If we can make the NIT (which isn't so bad considering how much we lost due to drafts/graduation), this will be a good "reloading" year.

I guess that leads into one more question. Is respectable good enough? Does regularly going to the postseason satisfy you or does it have to be an NCAA bid (like the Creightons and SIUs of our size)?

Here are the records for BU after 7 games, each of the last 10 seasons:

    97-98- 4-3
    98-99- 5-2
    99-00- 4-3
    00-01- 3-4
    01-02- 2-5
    02-03- 2-5
    03-04- 5-2
    04-05- 6-1
    05-06- 5-2
    06-07- 5-2

I am not ready to sell my season tickets yet.
BU can certainly win 3 or 4 of the next five games and head into the conference race at 8-4 or 9-3.

      NIT

I'm sticking with my original prediction --

      17 wins
      5th or 6th in Valley
      NIT

I had Bradley going a game on either side of the .500 mark. So I think they are a little ahead of what I thought.

Andrew Warren or Sam Singh will have to contribute more for this to be an NIT team. The current seven can't do it alone.

24 games left....by my count, 12 at home and 12 away...If BU can manage to protect the home court (which won't be easy) and steal one or two on the road, I could see them winning 17 or 18 games and getting a NIT bid. I said when the year started that an NIT bid would be a successful year for BU and I'm stickin with it.
