  • Sean O'Brien commits to SIU

Former BU recruit Sean O'Brien decided to end his recruitment and he committed to Southern Illinois today. He had visited the SIU campus over the weekend. Congrats to Sean.

congrats to Hinson as well. Nice to finally have some good news coming out of Carbondale. I think most rational Saluki fans realize that we have a 4-5 year timeline for a turn around. That said, with O'Brien in the fold, if we can get a commit from Lee as well it will be a good start for Barry.

I'm sure the fact that SIU has no players and that O'Brien has a great chance of huge minutes right off the bat - was attractive...

Sean O'Brien visited Bradley then went to visit SIU and probably would have decided between those two schools - but we backed off when we landed Zecevic (who our staff recruited and signed on say-so only and without ever seeing) & turned our sights on Michael Tucker (another kid who never panned out)...

Sean has turned into a nice player for SIU and was their leading scorer again last night
He's averaging 15 ppg, 8 rebs, and 60% form the arc in his sophomore season at SIU - placing him among the leaders in the MVC in scoring, rebounding, and blocks

Sean's father communicated with us after Sean's official visit to Bradley in the fall of 2012, and told us that though Bradley seemed very interested in Sean early on, during his official visit, they did not press him to commit. Later Bradley told Sean and his family that they would no longer be recruiting him because of the commitment of Stefan Zecevic.
In retrospect, that may have been a bad choice.
