  • OT-Demetrius Jackson, ND or Illinois??

Since there are numerous fans here that follow Illlinois basketball I thought that I'd venture this question here.

Demetrius Jackson is a highly ranked HS point guard who will announce tomorrow between Illinois and Notre Dame.

I have read 'free boards' from both ND (NDNation) and Illinois(Scout) regarding this upcoming commitment. Interestingly neither is totally confident as to where the kid will go (By the way, Jackson is either from South Bend or nearby).

Question (I don't follow the Illini BB from here on the Cape). Jackson is a point guard. Illinois' starting point guard is only a soph named Tracey Abrams who was team MVP last year. I assume that Abrams will start again this year and hence have 2 years as starting point guard when/if Jackson arrives in Champaign.

But ND posters are convinced that Jackson will start from Day 1 for the Illini while he will have to wait a year at ND (until their PG Atkins graduates). Why is it so certain that Jackson would start for Illinois?

Also interested because this is now the Big 10 vs the ACC (a recent new development). Who wins this one?

Although I have no leanings on this one - one of my close associates is as die-hard Illini fan as I am a BU fan and he is currently not too optimistic - he kinda fears the decision is already in and it's not Illinois --

I think he'd definitely start over Abrams at Illinois. That being said, I too have heard that its a done deal that he's staying in northwest Indiana.

I have been following the recruiting news for the past week or so....

        http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/Forum...ad.php?t=18279

the best free site for illinois info is Illinoisloyalty.com

that link is a recruiting thread that was started on July 31st and now has over 1.6 million views and about 10,000 post. and about a million of those are just since D Jack announced between U of I and NDU

I was recently BANNED over there for some stupid reason for 2 days (until tomorrow at 2 pm) he announces at 4 pm and there will be a LIVE chat room on that site starting at 3:30 PM

I think he will start over TA.....on paper... he seems to be PURE PG and not have any glaring deficiencies and his "high light vids" are VERY impressive

ESPNU will be airing his decision

People said for a long time it would be ILL then people said ND.....rumor is he is torn between playing at ILL where he really wants to and leaving home (Mishawaka, IN sister city to South Bend)

I say if it comes down to basketball ILL wins........who knows I change my mind every time new info is typed into that megathread

Loyalty is by far the best ILL site...

And Dan does have a pretty quick ban trigger, which I kind of appreciate. It keeps all of those HQ morons on their site.

I am hoping for this kid, if we get him Groce will be considered a God. But I am not expecting him to say yes.

haha yeah ive been banned 3 times....if you could imagine

he is strict but it makes it better especially with the amount of traffic....things would be out of control otherwise

i was banned for posting "my sources tell me DJ to ND is 100%" as a joke.........which now may be true

                  Illinois message boards

thanks for the link to the Illinois message board

It appears from reading the sites that there are thousands and thousands of Illinois basketball fans waiting for the ESPNU annoucement this afternoon of Mr. Jackson

There are maybe a hundred or so Notre Dame fans that will be tuning in (or that what their message boards seem to indicate)

Now if Jackson could punt a football the ND boards would light up!

Wonder if Mr Jackson has noticed the same.....

Speaking of ND football/basketball, I found the following recruiting info interesting:

                  ND has received commitments from:

LaBron James' cousin-Jamel James, a running back from Katy, Texas
David Robinson's (NBA Hall of Fame) son Corey, a 6'6 WR from San Antonio

since David himself was only 6'6 when he committed to play at Navy(hence just making their height limit) and grew to 6'11, I wonder if ND just recruited a 6'11 wide receiver???

on NDnation.com (the worst board format ever) or irishillustrated it might be....

there were people asking whether or not Demetrius Jackson was a football recruit or basketball recruit

and some just assumed he was football...........i hate Notre Dame

ND has also received oral commitments from Danny Mattingly (nephew to Don) and Tori Hunter Jr. On the team already are children of Mike Golic, Chris Collinsworth and Philip Daniels (ex Bear)

It sounds like it's Notre Dame
Reportedly, he has already called and informed the Illini staff

Dave Telep had prepared this report even before the decision because he knew what it would be...

you forgot George Atkinson's (Oakland Raiders DB) twin sons-George and Josh

As for Jackson to ND, if I understand the timeline correctly, ESPN writer Dave Telep posted that Jackson will commit to ND at 5 PM EST -thereby scooping (wait for it) ESPN
Telep's post (which has since been taken down) was seen by the Illinois Coaches before Jackson had called them to say that he wasn't coming to Champaign.
The Illinois Coaches texted Jackson, asking if it was true and DJack (as the Internet calls him) confirmed.
The Illinois sites have all since posted the bad news, meaning that the hords of people that were going to tune into ESPN at 5 will mostly be on to something else around that time...

nice pickup for ND (now if Irish football recruit Corey Robinson only grows like his father did after entering the Naval Academy, ND may also gain a 6'11 ex-football player

After losing out on Top 20 player Demetrius Jackson, Illinois Coach John Groce is now focusing on Chicago Simeon senior point guard Jaylon Tate. Tate was close to committing to Illinois a year ago when Bruce Weber and Jerrance Howard targeted him. Tate is not ranked nearly as high as Jackson. Recruiting services have Tate ranked as a 2-star or 3-star player. National rankings have him somewhere around #100-200 nationally.
