  • Former BU assistant coach Jim Platt hired at St. Louis University

Well, sort of...- Jim Platt was hired yesterday as an assistant coach by St. Louis Interim Head Coach Jim Crews. Crews was named Interim Head Coach when Head Coach Rick Majerus stepped down due to medical reasons. Platt had worked under Crews as an assistant at Army before he came to Bradley. Last season, he was the Director of Basketball Operations at Liberty University. Congratulations Coach Platt!

Jim Platt has been named an assistant coach for Saint Louis University’s men’s basketball team. Platt, who was director of basketball operations at Liberty last season, will fill the spot left by Jim Crews who was named interim head coach after Rick Majerus took a leave of absence due to health concerns. Hmmm..

"Platt spent five seasons as head coach of Illinois’ Luther High School North
before transitioning to the collegiate level as an assistant at Illinois State.
After a six-year stint at ISU, he returned to the Chicago-area, this time as
an assistant coach at DePaul University. He helped lead the Blue Devils to six
consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including back-to-back trips to
    the Sweet Sixteen from 1985-87."

wow - he has more Chicago ties & connections than just about anyone on our staff...

The DePaul Blue Devils, huh??? Well, they might get more media exposure if they changed their name to this...

I hardly think it's fair to judge Jim's capabilities as a coach and recruiter based on one single late-season recruit. I got to know Jim a little and he knows a tremendous amount about basketball, and has had success coaching at several different levels. He must still have some value for some pretty good coaches like Jim Crews to want him around. He is a really good guy, too. I am happy for him and his wife that he's got another coaching job.

I was kidding DC and agree with you regarding Platt. He was probably BU's most qualified assistant coach since Merfeld and Buescher. I wish him well because I've heard he is a really good guy.
