  • Indiana State loses potential starter to injury

The Sycamores start the season with a bad break...

Junior college big man Michael Samuels suffered a "cracked" bone in his right foot and will undergo surgery - and it is unlikely he'd play before December
and ultimately a decision will have to be made if he plays this season..
This gives ex-BU recruit Justin Gant an opportunity for PT

"It is possible, though Lansing would not say so, that Samuels’ injury could prevent him from playing during the 2012-13 season.
..Lansing wouldn’t go so far to rule Samuels out for the year, nor would he say that Samuels would sit out the season as a medical redshirt.
...if he’s going to miss half the season, you don’t want to waste a year of his eligibility either.."

Here is an article from the Terre Haute Trib Star-

    One interesting part-
Sophomore center Justin Gant (2.4 points per game) and sophomore forward Jake Kitchell (2.3) are the only big men currently on the ISU roster. Both were expected to see their minutes increase this season, but now, both will likely carry a far bigger load.

I am no Indiana State expert, but Justin Gant and Jake Kitchell are not the only big men on their roster. They still have R.J. Mahurin, a 6'9", 225 lb. junior forward who was a regular last season and even started 6 games. And their roster also shows 6'6", 215 lb. junior forward Manny Arop, 6'8" (transfer from Gonzaga who is eligible this year), 240 lb. freshman forward T.J. Bell, and freshman 6'7", 240 lb. forward Rhett Smith.
