While it's not a mystery that BU has struggled through the last couple of seasons without a potent perimeter shooting game OR low post presence, I think there's hope that this year could be significantly different on both fronts. But specifically, the perimeter game could be better. It's not uncommon to see young shooters "find" their shot as they mature. My question is: What kind of team will this be if WLjr and DSE shoot 40% from the field? It think it's a resonable assumption. If you look at our games last year, even a tiny "tick" up in shooting from the perimeter adds a few wins. That, in concert with the likelihood that we will get incremental improvement from SS, JP and the other young "bigs" should result in another couple of wins. Trying to think positive here.

There's no doubt in mind we will improve in that area. How can't we? The 3 opens up the offensive game. Last year teams were packing it in and daring us to shoot the 3. I'd like to see what our slashers and bigs can do with a bit of space. The question is who really is going to step up to be that 3 point specialist?

Historically, Geno Ford coached teams have not been real big on living and dying by the 3 as some of Les' teams did. I think you'll see Geno's teams strive more for high percentage 2's by slashing to the basket and getting out on the break. Review some old KSU film and you'll see what I mean.

Good, but troubling point to some extent. When our guards "slashed" last year really bad things happened. This group of guards is certainly athletic enough to drive / slash, but seem to lack any kind of purpose when defenders collapse. i.e. very few penetrations with kick-outs to open shooters....or drop-downs to bigs for a dunk.

Though Jim Les' earlier teams relied more on the 3-point shot, his later teams actually shot a lot fewer than Geno's teams did at Kent State.

In Geno's 3 years at Kent State, here were his teams' 3-point numbers-

By comparison, here are the numbers for Jim Les' teams for his last 2 seasons--

2010-11......33.4%....159..........476 (Top 5-Warren, DSE, Dunson, Maniscalco, Lemon)

JL's teams averaged only 500 three pointers per season. Even last year's Bradley team, which was not a good 3-point shooting team, shot 503.

I look for JC to be more consistent as well - if he hits 35%, and DSE/WL can get close to 40%, we'll be lookin' good.
I remember a lot of DSE & Walt's 3's were not catch and shoot - but rather dribble and shoot - they can probably be more effective with a bit more time. If we get some inside-out action, or dribble-drive and kick out, that will help our team 3-point % I believe.

In today's college game you need consistent 3 point shooting. That is a fact! 3 point shooting can keep you in games or get you back into a game.
