Bad News for Peoria? - Bye, Bye Peoria Chiefs?

It is very common for teams to leave minor league stadiums and cities after their contracts are up. Lots of reasons why.....ownership, attendance, geography, and at the higher levels, money since minor league owners share in salaries. This would be big news here since Peoria has many Cub fans and Pete/Rocky Vonachen have a great relationship with the Cubs.
Having said that I believe Peoria is guaranteed to have a pro team next year as long as ownership wants it and the stadium still meets Minor League Baseball stadium requirements. They have seating minimums, press area requirements, parking minimums, locker room size requirements, umpire accommodations, and dugout size requirements. I think baseball has rules in place that protect communities who have invested lots of money in bringing pro baseball to their city. It may not be your first choice of teams but at least you have one. And.....they still can be the Chiefs.

If I follow your question right I believe they can still be the Peoria Chiefs but under a different affiliation (Major League team).
But Minor League teams often change their nicknames when a new team comes in or they want to change their image/logo to bump up sales of clothing and memorabilia.

It would be horrible to lose the Chiefs for Peoria, and bad for them to even lose the Cubs affiliate, the only one that would even be as close to advantageous would be the Cardinals (though, I'd really enjoy that).
I hope we keep them personally.

Cardinals deal with QC is up after this season. I would assume that is the first call being made.

IF the Chiefs couldn't make it work with the Cubs, hard to see some other
team coming in and making a go of it.
Only hope would be if Cardinals fans are more supportive since they are a much better team than the Cubs and have put many All Star players on the Peoria Roster when they were here. They weren't last time since Chiefs had to try the Cubs to stay in business.
Shame on the citizens of Central Illinois for lack of support of local minor league baseball team. Outstanding facility, tie in for beloved Cubs fans, great family entertainment (everyone bitc*** about lack of family entertainment in Central Ill), good value...
One knock on Peoria Chiefs when I was still in Peoria and
sharing season tix along 3rd base line with a bunch of co=workers
was their lame in game entertainment/marketing.... got real stale...
Peoria seems stuck as a high school sports, huntin/fishin, bowling, slow pitch
softball, blue collar town...BUilding for the Future

Had a feeling once Theo got all of his people in place that this was going to happen. Had no loyalty to Pete and Rocky and with Kane County becomming available it seems to be an easy decision. Obviously the Cardinals would be the logical choice. Whether they want to move back here after getting replaced by the Cubs is another story.

I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

More reports from the PJ Star-
Chiefs losing Cubs affiliation to Kane County?
What's next for the Peoria Chiefs?

Sorry, but baseball is bbbbbboring, I went to one Chief's game this summer. Fireworks were promoted after the game. I got so bored that my wife and I left after the fifth inning. There were at least three errors committed by both teams by the fifth inning. Most entertaining was watch some of the fans over-indulge in overpriced beer and bad food.
