  • Former Bradley recruit Milton Doyle leaves Kansas

The strange story of Milton Doyle continues. The late bloomer committed to Florida International University his senior year at Chicago Marshall HS, but then was released after FIU coach Isaiah Thomas left. He then was recruited by several schools, and wanted to come to Bradley, but his decision came after the final scholarship was gone. Then Kansas offered in April, and he accepted. He was not cleared by the NCAA until late July because of some questions about online courses he took earlier in his high school career. He played some on Kansas recent 4 game trip to France.
But late last night, Doyle's mother told the Kansas City Star newspaper that his son hed just learned he was dismissed from the program.

Where did you see his was "dismissed" from the team? Another article? This one only says:

KU freshman Milton Doyle is leaving the Kansas basketball program, his mother, Lisa Green, told The Kansas City Star on Sunday evening.
Green declined to elaborate on the specific reasons for the departure, saying she just found out from her son on Sunday. KU coach Bill Self was expected to address the issue Monday.

I can think of only two reasons you'd leave a team with a recent National Championship that desperately needs you and any warm body... when all you have to do is show up healthy and there's be playing time available...
especially after all the stuff that has gone on - the trips, campus visits, having to take those two extra online courses that he aced in just two weeks and picked up an impossible amount of extra coursework that the NCAA apparently fell for, and all the schmoozing in the press to get the kid's stock to blow up...etc...

A- the check bounced - and you didn't get what you were promised
B- you've already broken rules and you're told to leave despite their desperation for warm bodies (or been arrested)

Bill Self comments on Milton Doyle's departure from Kansas
Milt Doyle, who returned to his hometown of Chicago on Aug. 13 for a weeklong visit with his family following Kansas University’s basketball excursion to Switzerland and Paris, planned to catch a flight to Kansas City International on Sunday for the start of first semester classes Monday at KU. He had a change of heart […]

I am told that in that phone conversation Self told Doyle:
            a. he wasn't good enough to play at kansas
            b. he could stay, redshirt, and hope for the best next year. no promises. they would recruit over him.
            c. self advised him to leave before school started, and find a better better fit.

I guess he's eligible right away. He never took a class at KU, but did take some online summer school classes. Not sure how that plays.

Southern has openings and Barry is Bill's BFF.. I wonder if a call is being placed there?

he cannot possibly be eligible right away -- he's already played in preseason exhibition games at Kansas

Yes, even if he never took classes, he would have had to be enrolled as a scholarship student-athlete at Kansas to be eligible to play on their trip to France. The NCAA rules then prohibit him from playing at another school this year. This will be interesting to see where he lands, but I think he would have to sit out at least a year.

Would like to see the Braves land a player like this (maybe this one ?). Better for the league when Bradley can be a contender and not where they have finished lately.

As we have seen before, the NCAA seems pretty friendly when it comes to
BCS Schools MBB programs & players..

Would it surprise anyone if the NCAA offered Milton an eligibility exception if he ends up at another BCS Conference School.... But NOT if he ends up with a MID MAJOR?

After all, have to look out for the interests of the poor players recruited
                    then dumped by BCS Schools.

seriously?...he's already demonstrating certain characteristics that remind me strongly of Jeremy Fears, Jereme Richmond, and a few others

Milton Doyle visited Loyola, and will also visit UW-Green Bay before deciding.

The Horizon League other than Butler is quite a step down from Kansas and the Butler is gone after this year.

Rumor is that Milton Doyle has committed to Loyola.

Looks like Illinois State was also in the mix for Milton Doyle.

As I posted above, it looks like he won't be eligible right away, like I have seen some say. He'll probably have to sit out at least a year.
