  • Shayok bulking up to SHAYOK

Maybe it's been talked about on the board before, but what do those in the know think about Shayok adding some 45 pounds during the off season? I liked Shayok a lot last year, even when he was making mistakes, and admired the raw talent he occasionally flashed. Any of you have insights if bulked up SHAYOK has also increased his basketball skills? Where do you think he'll fit in this year? I can't wait to see him, and I have high hopes for his season.

The extra weight and strength should allow him to be more successful at the 4 position, which he seems much better suited for.

I am NOT trying to causing a fight, but something HAS to be off here. It is not physically possible to gain 46 pounds of muscle in 5 months... without "help" that is. So I am guessing there was a misquote or Geno was exaggerating slightly (or alot )...

That was my thought as well.

I do not know - but I do recall this...In the early season 2008 (the beginning of AT's redshirt freshman season), a PJ Star column claimed Anthony Thompson had bulked up 40 pounds overnight..

I followed AT for his entire 5-year career at BU and I doubt he ever gained a total of 40 lbs in those entire 5 years combined....so your guess is as good as mine

Just guessing here but I imagine the 45 pound gain was from his weight at the beginning of last season... And that weight may have actually been his weight from high school. I would not be surprised to hear that S2 has also grown an inch or two and that the actual weight gain from the END of last season is more like 20-25 pounds. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Shayok brings to the table this year.

I was just looking up his listed weight from last year on the BUBraves site, and is says 215 lbs., so if he's indeed risen to around 240, it would be about 25 pounds, which isn't bad!

Adding SS to the low-post mix would give Geno some pretty good options!
Can y'all imagine - we might have 5 BIGS this year that will likely see the floor every game barring injury? And to think that last year, we had just 2 down the stretch.

If Shaok did indeed add 45 lbs to his frame, he will now be known as:
                    Shayok "Zach" Shayok...

Can Shayok now do back flips and jump up from laying on his back, a la ZA?

I used to get a kick out of each announcer who saw ZA do this in a game and were absolutely floored...or is that - UNfloored?

Can anyone say stress fracture? Not good on body to run with more weight than used to. Anyone else worried about this?

After Bradley's recent history with injuries I worry about EVERYTHING!

These are young men who's body can take a pounding unlike mine! I'm sure a bit of that additional body weight comes from his lower body (I'm hoping the bulk of it is) which should help with any type of additional stress put upon his legs.
