  • MVC Nonconference record

With two wins Monday night, the Valley's nonconference record goes to 35-12 (.745).
If only D-I opponents are considered, the record is 29-12 (.707).

The Missouri Valley's conference RPI has now climbed to #6 among conferences, ahead of the Big East and SEC.
Only four conferences (Big XII, Pac 10, ACC, MWC) have lost fewer games than the MVC.

One online RPI service has the MVC as the #4 RPI among D-I conferences and #4 SOS.

Both of these guys now have their RPI's updated to show the Valley has moved into 4th place in Conference RPI on both sites, ahead of the Mountain West, Big Ten, Big East, and SEC.
The Valley is also very close to overtaking the #3 conference, the Big XII.

That's all fine and dandy, but I am really disliking the fact that our RPI is as low as it is. Bradley is 214 with an SOS of 305. Only Drake has an RPI worse than us.

If this continues, we could really become an RPI killer to the rest of the teams in the MVC.

The Diggers/Packers will use 'bad losses' against Bradley as a reason for not giving more teams in the MVC at large bids. (that's saying we win against some of those teams)

We NEED to start winning again... and against better teams.

The TT game was a bit of a downer, but I think the team was on a low battery charge after the Illinois game. I think BU's chances against both Michigan State and Iowa State are pretty good and give us the opportunity to put a bit of a bounce back in our RPI. Equally key will be for Illinois, Depaul, and TT to win games so that BU's SOS imporves.

Missouri Valley nonconference record now goes to 52-17 (.754).
            Against D-I opponents, they are 46-17 (.730).

All of the RPI rating services now have the MVC rated as #3 conference.
The Mountain West which is at 49-17, and which was rated at #3 just a week ago, with a couple bad losses and absolutely no decent wins because of cupcake scheduling, has dropped all the way down to #8 rated. Just shows how only a couple bad losses can have an impact when you schedule so softly.
Thankfully the MVC has strong scheduling and several top opponents.

Yes, and even the Tenn Tech loss should not hurt that much as they should finish high in their conference and get a lot of wins even if the wins will be against weak conference opponents. If we would have scheduled a weaker team from the same conference and lost, that would have been an rpi disaster, but I think Tech will have a good record by the end of the year.

The Valley's nonconference record goes to 53-18, 47-18 in the eyes of the D-I selection committee.

The MVC sits at the #3 ranking among all D-I conferences, and is 3 times further ahead of the 4th place conference then they are behind the 2nd place conference.
With a good weekend, the valley could conceivably move into the #2 spot!

There are several GREAT opportunities for the Valley to move up this weekend,

Drake is playing two winnable games in their Drake Regency Challenge
                and
Wichita State hosts Wyoming (RPI = 67)
                and
SIU hosts Western Kentucky (RPI = 19)
                and
Creighton is playing at Xavier (RPI = 8 ) on Saturday
                and
Indiana State goes to Butler (RPI = 1)...this could be a big one!

Just an FYI, Creighton is hosting Xavier.

That should help them. They NEED to win that one (and need Dotzler to get fully healthy soon).

You are correct. The Jays vs. Dayton last night, with Dotzler injured, offense did not flow. Without Dotzler ,athough he saw limited action, they are limited at the all important point guard position!

Tornado, you are not suggesting that Indiana State has even the slightest chance of winning against the Bull Dogs, or are you?

Grassman, just by stepping on the court against the #1 RPI team, it will increase the RPI of Indiana State and the Valley.
But if they can win....and as the saying goes....
                          On any given night..........

This is just something I put together for my own curiosity... You guys probably know of a website that tracks it, but if not, here you go:

                              MVC vs Non-Conference Opponents:
                              As of 12/07/2006
