I'm not getting into the JL debate because it has ran its course with most of us die hard fans. What I will get into is that I said I'll give Geno 4 years to produce a team that tastes success within the Valley. I'm not talking .500 but competing for a top 3-4 seed in St Louis. Right now I can't see it. We were told that he was would be a lot more transparent regarding his recruits and I still can't see it. Call me concerned! Are we going in the right direction folks? That is the question. Can this staff recruit? They may be able to coach but can they recruit. In my industry there have been teams that have created great products but because they can't market or do sales they go nowhere. Others who have an average product but really can sell build multi-billion dollar institutions.

Geno to me has not proven a thing. I want him to succeed and the tools are there but the proof of his ability to lead us to where we believe this program should be, starts with really good recruits. So far I have not seen that. In sales you call that the pipeline and it is guaranteed that you will fail without one! BTW..I believe he has recruited pretty good layers that can get us to .500 but I want hear the sky is the limit.

One word on JL and that is Remy Abel....Get me one recruit like that and I'll shut my mouth.

I hope this new article by Dave helps ease some fans paranoia and panic on recruiting.

More than two dozen offers out. Geno says himself that if we don't have two verbals by Halloween then you should be concerned.

Two 3/4 men types from the state scheduled to visit this month.

Nice to read about the returning players as well.

Until we sign a player and they step foot on campus as a student most of us will be nervous. Also, we do not know what GF's closing rate is. Until he has a track record we will br scrutinizing for better or for worse. When I have hired sales guys I usually give them 3 month probation....Good to hear that he has a pipeline but closing on the better ones will be crucial. I hope he has a whale or two because one never knows.

According to what Dave Reynolds had in his recent column...
It appears our staff does consider it pretty important to sign at least TWO here in this fall period.
I cannot imagine it would be wise to carry four and possibly more open scholarships late into the spring/summer hoping for what's available then...

Exactly lefty. That would be suicidal to Geno as a coach. We'll get somebody... Don't panic tornado.

I am not panicking, I never panic - that's a very irrational action that would lead to some terrible judgements...
and I know our coaches are not panicking..

but anyone who reads this article will undoubtedly see the same THREE things I see and have been saying for weeks despite those who have argued vigorously to deny it...

A- that recruiting IS hard - and it's NOT easy to get who you want -

B- that there is a need to get at least couple locked in this fall...my very FIRST statement in this thread was that we do have time "BUT NOT FOREVER"...precisely what Geno says as well. My comment was then followed by numerous others who attacked me saying we don't need to get anyone this fall! Even Geno seems to agree that philosophy is absurd.
(one guy even states we don't need to get a couple locked in 'til June 15, 2013 Like I say - there won't be a lot of quality left then but if we don't get someone by then - the rest who are uncommitted will see BU's empty basket as some serious doubt!!!)

C- and that there is INDEED a reasonably certain timeline..

Our coaches are VERY specific about our immediate needs and our coaches literally see "Halloween" (only 10 weeks away after working on this class of 2013 for the past year) and a timeline where "panic" might indeed be reasonable!
He wants at least two players now in the fall (he says 2 or 3) and one or two in the spring but NOT all four delayed to the spring as some have surprisingly said is what's best for us..

Yes indeed - a good read.
Unbelievable that SS has gained 40 pounds in the offseason. This shows that this kid works really hard at getting better. Though he struggled mightily last year, I did notice improvement in his FT shooting as the year progressed, which is usually a sign of extra hard work in the gym.

I think we will be able to compete with Valley teams next year if SS and JC improve - a combined 15 ppg would go a long way.

One of the best news is that Geno is thrilled to have many more options this season, and with the addition of TP, we have some skill AND depth in the low post, which we haven't had in 5 years.

I think that the 2 transfers (OG & AF) will make a difference too in helping all our perimeter guys stay sharp, as last year, DSE & WL competing vs. the 2nd team didn't seem to help get them prepped for Valley competition.

I do like the potential of SS and if he can become a solid 4 or develop a 3 and a mid-range game he can be a special player. One thing I did like about his game was his handle for a big. If he can stop on a dime to hit a mid-range jumper and take what the D gives him he'll be hard to stop. I still believe we are missing a consistent 3 point shooter which in our league you need. I'm also hoping our bigs can give us the D and the rebounds we have been missing for quite some time. We need a motor, someone who will work the boards no matter what and have a nose for the ball when it comes off the rim. It's not always the tallest guy out there that gets the ball.
