  • Five things you miss about the "old" Bradley campus

Things I miss when I drive around BU's campus...

#1- the Fieldhouse and it's rocking atmosphere...sure the new facilities are great but I sure do miss the old Fieldhouse

#2- LaHood's Pizza - used to be right on the southeast corner of Main & University and I always loved their pizza the best...
we'd always order enough to eat for dinner and have enough left over to have it again for breakfast the next morning.

#3- The Varsity Theater - only a block off campus - always had great pics geared toward what the college kids wanted to see.

#4- Steak & Shake - was only a couple blocks down the street on Main St. and was always a great place for big meal
while heading downtown to shop for supplies at World Drug Store or Brown's Sporting Goods

#5- The old Avanti's that was on the southwest corner of Main & University and the $1 Tuesday night All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Nights...
there were times some of us (who'd start fasting a couple days in advance to be sure we could eat a ton) ate FIVE huge plate-fulls for just a buck!

Honorable Mention- the beanies they "made" everyone wear as freshmen, the football team, and Joe Allen

There are probably only a couple people who know what you are talking about with the green beanies. But there is one on display in the new Hayden-Clark Alumni Center museum. I think they have it on display in the 1950's display case, though they were still around through the 1960's. Freshmen were supposed to wear them at all times on campus, or they could get harassed by upperclassmen, and be required to recite the words to the Bradley school song and the fight song.

I never wore mine and never got bothered about it...so it was a fading tradition by then

I'm fairly young but I miss the Fieldhouse! I heard about my dad and grandpa going to football games as well and I think it would be great!
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

I miss the fieldhouse. But to tell you how times have changed the first thing that popped into my head when you said that was-"The restaraunt/bar Fieldhouse closed? I didn't realize that"

The bowling alley in the basement of the old Student Center was pretty cool. I had a bowling class with Luuuuuuke Jackson.

I also miss those un-air conditioned dorms... NOT!

My dorms at Valpo were not airconditioned.... STONE AGE! And lots of time spent at the Library.

The old bowling alley was classic- I took a pass fail class in bowling... ALso took theory of coaching from Coach Stowell.. back when BU had PE degrees
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

1960's-style "protest sit-ins" at the ROTC building???
(that all ended when this event happened after the ROTC building was burned at KSU)
