Will Penn State Basketball Players Leave?

tornado

I know all the anger and sanctions are aimed at football - but....
would you want to play basketball for PSU under these current circumstances???
I have to think some or maybe many of their players would consider playing somewhere else..........

Their best player Tim Frazier - was considering Bradley way back in 2007..but the connection was thru Alvin Brooks III and his Houston ties

RE: Will Penn State BB Players Leave?

Only if Sandusky used to shower in the basketball gym/arena locker rooms...

Why would they want to leave now? The football program is probably on ice for the next decade. This is now their chance to steal the spotlight. If anything, I would think this helps the basketball team.

The $60 mil penalty and the fallout will certainly hurt basketball - how could it not?
But the "fallout" will always be debatable.....

A couple articles I read pointed out the following...(these are quotes)

- "the sanctions will form a cloud over the athletic department as a whole" - The University President, some members of the Board of Trustees, and other top people in the Athletic Department are all gone as a result of this - so how can it NOT affect basketball?

- "There is no question Penn State’s reputation has been damaged, and that some recruit, at some point, is going to be disinterested as a result"

- "Schools will be able to negative recruit against Penn State far more easily now"

- "Penn State wasn't an easy place to recuit to anyway for basketball - they can least afford more problems"
"We’re talking about a basketball program with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the past 46 years competing in a conference with some of the sport’s most overwhelming powers"
"We’re talking about a program located in a state whose only consistent source of Division I talent, the city of Philadelphia, has six Division I programs of its own."

- then lastly - coincidence or not - their best recruit in memory - a top kid from Philly named Brandon Austin, just decommitted http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archiv...brandon_austin_decommits_from_penn_state.aspx

Remember, EVERYTHING in that athletic department is on a 5 year probation. That report had cited the entire athletic department as having problems with insufficient monitoring practices, so they're watching everyone for a very long time. Technically, all programs, including basketball, were violating NCAA rules through the lack of sufficient monitoring.

It's only Football with a postseason ban though right?

here's a football recruiting story -- fairly highly rated kid gets admitted to Auburn...
now his high school guidance counselor admits that the transcripts he generated and used to help in this kid's recruiting were completely faked...

an investigation is underway - but note how little anyone is saying - not even naming the player nor the guidance counselor...
although the identity of the player in question is known - and surely he must have looked at and seen that his transcript was phony..
wonder how often this happens- as this one wouldn't have ever been found out had the guy not apparently admitted it...
