  • Some old pictures of Bradley campus

    I ran across these...

Here in 1948 the back half of the Fieldhouse was nearing completion and there were just temporary dorms up along Main Street.
Haussler & Bradley Halls are visible and a large oval track exists across from where University Hall is now

Here in 1957 the Fieldhouse is completed, there's a baseball field where Olin is now, while Lovelace & Burgess are built but still very few trees...

Bradley Hall after the fire of 1/12/63

Remember seeing many baseball games, sometimes followed by a track meet, on campus. Will never forget how cold it was that night of the fire. Listened to a Braves game on the radio that same night. Lucky it was on the road. Thanks T for the pictures.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I lived about 4 blocks away. I walked over to see it. Yeah it was very cold.

In the 1957 photo ... I think I see my 1949 Plymouth Deluxe parked on N. Institute Place.

I think you mean Hartmann Hall (now Hartmann Center), which was the gymnaseum for a while. Haussler didn't come around until a little later.

Yes, you are correct. Some of us older Bradley grads recall having our required PE classes in that building, which was known as Hewitt Hall from 1959 until renamed for the Hartmann family in 1978 (thanks to a generous donation). It originally had a pool in the lower level, and a nice gymnasium and running track in the upper level where Bradley basketball was played until the games were moved to the Peoria Armory in 1925. Hard to believe, but when it was built in 1909, it was the 3rd largest gymnasium facility of it's kind at that time. Much of the original building was later torn down to build the student center building, and the 1978 renovation removed the gym and pool and renovated the building into a performing arts center.

Here is an interesting article about Hewitt/Hartmann Hall which turned 100 years old back in the fall of 2009-
