synopsis: it is a nearly 4 and a half minute video - mostly interviews..
posted last night by HOI's Jim Mattson...(a 20 second ad precedes the video)
both Geno Ford (in Mitchell JJ Anderson gym) and Dan Muller (in RA) are interviewed and they both talk about how important the July recruiting period is....
-fair or unfair - the period is important because that's when all the coaches are watching...coaches often cannot watch in the winter because of schedules
-if you see HS games - you see maybe one or two D-I kids playing against non-D-I defenders but at AAU there's lots of D-I kids playing at a higher level against other D-I kids
-most of the kids are looking for schools to commit to
-lots of kids all in one or two locations to view
-once they get back to school - very hard to watch or recruit them
-gotta see them to evaluate them
-Geno has to fly commercial because we have no private plane like other schools do
-Muller looking only at 2013 kids - his wife is still in Tennessee and not moved up to IL
BUT - that new NCAA rules allow coaches 2 hours a week of on court activity & practices - so you also gotta spend time with the players you have - especially the new ones..
So Geno spends Monday & Tuesday on campus with the Bradley players then Tuesday evening thru the following Sunday hitting the road and recruiting.

How many MVC schools actually have a private jet? I can imagine Creighton and Wichita State... Maybe UNI since they have such a small airport... Anyone else. Are we really at a disadvantage with our MVC competitors if most have to fly commercial?
all the BCS schools fly their recruiters around and quite possibly many mid-majors who have FB do too...
the way Geno talked about it - seemed to suggest we ARE at a recruiting disadvantage because he has to fly commercial and can only go when and where the standard passenger flights go...and have to make other arrangements for getting to out-of-the way cities & events
There has to be a rich BU Alum who can spring for charter flights for BU recruiting, or, the cost of 'renting' a private jet for X number of recruiting trips!
If not, suggest the Braves Club launch a major fundraiser to build an 'endowment' fund which can pick up the costs of renting private planes for BU staff recruiting trips in the future.

I believe BU had such a person/"benefactor" when Les was coaching... He left during the "fallout"...
If Geno thinks a private jet will aid him in recruiting, he can rent one with a pilot at Byerly Aviation. On his salary of over $700,000 per year, he can afford it if he values it. Otherwise, he can fly coach like the majority of us fly.
