the blurb in the paper today says that indeed the fact that Northwestern was following him everywhere - sometimes with two coaches at his every event - swayed him to decide.
But I will still be a Nate Taphorn fan...
everything about the kid & his family is class & quality...and the fact that he liked Bradley and had BU at the top of his list was a compliment....
I hope's he's talked to ex-Pekin Dragon Matt Moran...and BLee.....

I'm disappointed for Bradley but happy for the Taphorn family. Nathan's father Pat is a great guy, we have served on a couple volunteer boards together. For some kids, the academic side of a D-I scholarship is a priority, and there are only a handful of better schools in the country than NW. Plus, saving $40k+ per year for 4-5 years is a nice gift Nathan can give his parents!
Wow that is a bizarre switch. from a August decision to right now.
Oh well, I would have been happy to have him. But I don't think I felt as positive towards him as our coaches did.
I agree with your post, but I don't think the timing is that bizarre. The kid found a place that was a good fit for him, and now he gets to enjoy the rest of the summer as well as his senior year.
Kinda creepy if you ask me. But, it's tough for BU to compete against NW... Better school, better team, better conference, better town...
But Northwestern has never had an NCAA tournament appearance....
I hate to say it, but I know that ISU red has been in on a certain recruit for a long time and they have basically done the same thing.
Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
Here's a kid we should move to the top of the recruiting priority list...
The kid hits 46% from 3-pt range, he's the son of an NBA'er, and he's still growing...
surely we'd be more appealing than San Francisco...

I'm sure he'll feel comfortable in the gym at Northwestern. It reminds me of Hawkins Gym in Pekin.
In spite of the lipstick placed on our recruiting by the cheerleaders at the PJ Star, I am hearing what a lot of fans are hearing...that just when we really needed a great recruiting class, instead we have now struck out on all of our 2013 recruits, and we are starting over with the focus on jucos and second tier recruits. There is a lot of talent among the names on the recruiting board, but we are not going to get any of them.
I hope Geno can pull a rabbit out of his hat, because so far the other MVC coaches are clobbering us on the recruiting trail.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."
And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."
word has it that Karrington Ward - who is now labelled as Bradley NEW "No. 1 target" - was just offered by Coach Alvin Brooks & Bruce Weber of K-State (but then that link also says BU had the advantage on Taphorn because we are his home town school)
so - since it gets known widely who is being watched by each coach - then can someone tell me what prospects are among BU's top targets....

+1 yes please someone in the know. I hate to drag this out but we have not had a recruit that makes me really smile since that guy who plays for Indiana (RA). I do not care where he pulls it but I'd like to hear some great news not just decent news. As the post before this said,"because so far the other MVC coaches are clobbering us on the recruiting trail." and there are no excuses at this point in time for that.
