This story says he's 6-9 and plays for Ankeny - a school of about 1400 (roughly Richwoods' size) enrollment...averaging 10.7 ppg and 6 rpg....not really mindboggling for a kid who is probably 6 inches taller than most of the kids guarding him all year.
He was held to four pts against Adam Woodbury - Iowa recruit.
But UNI has a history of taking these unheralded kids (kinda like what we did with POB, JC, Will F., and DRuff) and getting the most out of them...at least they stay loyal and are hard workers.

In the league he plays in, he's usually guarded by somebody in the 6-6 to 6-8 range.
Having said that, I've seen Friedman play, and was not overwhelmed, but he has some skills. His stats were fairly modest, because he played on a team that was ranked #1 in Iowa for much of the season (finished 25-1).

I was making only a rough size comparison - but actually as far as basketball prowess - size in Iowa doesn't always matter..
Has Ankeny played in the title game in the recent decade or had many D-I players?
But - regardless of the debate about the schools - my point is Friedman is not yet very widely heralded - none of the recruiting sites have much on him, he's unrated, and has few offers.
That's not a knock on the kid - those are just facts - and yet my point was that UNI does their homework and lands kids like this all the time and get good results.

thanks - anyone since the 90's, though??
BTW -- because of the shift of students since the Woodruff closing, Richwoods now has over 1500 enrollment...and growing - it'll be even larger this year..
while this site states the enrollment at Ankeny is 1469..although that may be a few years ago...some other sites put the number a bit higher
the official IHSAA (Iowa equivalent of IHSA) enrollment for Ankeny is 1674..so I stand by my opinion that their size is "roughly Richwoods' size"..since there's no other high school within our area that's anywhere as comparable size-wise...
