  • Followup of ex-BU Brave Andrew Davis

I am sure most recall Andrew Davis - came to Bradley from IMG in JL's final season - more because he followed assistant coach Jim Platt
    Andrew Davis (23) Center -   Career Statistics Year GP-GS Min.-Avg. FG-FGA Pct. 3FG-FGA Pct. FT-FTA Pct. OR-DR-TOT Avg. PF-DQ A TO BS S Pts.-Avg. 2010-11,

Andrew was a good kid but never played and thus did not use a year of eligibility....
but now he has enrolled at South Mountain Community College and will play basketball in 2012-1013
....oddly in all that you can find on him - not one single mention of the entire year spent at BU...as if he doesn't care to even have anyone know...hmm..

But we wish him well and hope he proves doubters wrong -

    "2012-13 Outlook

South Mountain is gearing up for next season....
... The defending Region 1 champs are reloading with high scoring wingman
and shooter Grant Ellender and key returnees, point guard DaLan Stafford and
big man John Renzi. 6’10 forward Andrew Davis
will help the front line with size and his ability to score inside and out."

"South Mountain would like to announce the signing of Andrew Davis. He is a 6-10 power forward from IMG academy.
"We are looking for Andrew to fill the 4 spot and run the floor. He can go inside and outside. I think he will explode next year for South." Nichols...

he actually looks pretty good in this highlight video - looks to have bulked up and has some moves (some - not a lot)
...watch to the 2 min mark of the video and see that he drains numerous 3-pointers - with a decent stroke - but edited videos are hard to know...

    also...from NJCAA
"Davis, Andrew --- IMG --- Scottsdale, Arizona - South Mountain Community College --- Men's Basketball --- (Signed LOI)"

He has two years of eligibility at the juco level but may not want to use them both - since his "clock" started ticking by NCAA reckoning in the fall of 2010-
thus he only has 3 years left to complete his eligibility - but can apply for an extra (6th year).

Can you blame the kid tornado? It's not as if his teammates made him feel like a welcome member of the team while at BU. From all I've heard he is a good kid and a good student and I wish him well.

I would lay that blame on the SID of the school. Its not like kids are writing their own bio's or press releases.

Can you tell us more about how he was treated by his teammates? Didn't hear anything about this.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I won't go into a lot of detail here Chico. I'm not sure Mods would allow it anyway. Let's just say there's a reason he essentially disappeared from the team the last month of the season; he was not well-liked by many of the "team leaders" due to a practice "incident".

the situation is a bit more complex - as Andrew was never really a recruit of Jim Les and never did feel part of the team..it was an eerie situation that was a result of unique causes...

No problem. I'll be able to follow him this Winter out in Arizona.

The practice flareup might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. But the problems started well before that.

True DC... That was when Davis finally stood up like a man and said enough is enough. I applaud the kid and wish him well.

For those who are wondering, in Andrew's only season with Bradley, he never saw playing time and was exclusively a practice player. He was always teamed with the reserves against the primary players in practices. He was encouraged by the staff to play defense very physically and aggressively, because the coaches wanted our big guys (Will, Taylor) to learn to play better against more physical defenders like we would play against. Andrew was a bit clumsy as a freshman, and that lead to some wild elbows, scuffles, and some hard feelings. Like you say, it happens all the time at the D1 level, but FWIH, Andrew took things a bit more personal, became frustrated, and voiced thoughts about quitting the team. He was talked into sticking it out, but it was a given that he would be leaving at the end of the season. Coach Les had already recruited and gotten a verbal commitment from a junior college player to fill his scholarship (Tyler Brown, who instead went to ISU).

Looks like the problem might not have been him, but his teammates. More kids should stand up like he did.

He still runs the pick and roll wrong everytime like all Jim Les Big Men did, not opening up to the ball, but turning his head and body the wrong way. Still bugs me seeing it. I think Prosser is the only one who didn't do it wrong.

Wasn't he a Platt guy? Brought by Platt...Schooled by Platt. Platt was supposed to be a good teacher of "bigs". I think the poor pick and roll that we saw was more a function of lack of talent and basketball IQ. IMO, It's tough to teach guys who are "athletes" and not "basketball players"; they have a poor grasp on the game and rarely retain and exhibit good fundamentals.

Too bad you were not on Twitter during that time. Then again, maybe it was a good thing you didn't see the tweets. I saw some of the tweets and it was evident that the team was IMHO a little on the dysfunctional side.

B4L, You are correct. I'm pretty certain he was a Platt guy.
