Not being familiar with the toy, I mean, they come off as a little racisty - hehe. No one is forcing Adidas to do anything, they can put them out or not - they decided it would be bad for their brand if they did. I don't really see why this is a big story. A private company, reacting to some public backlash, and doing what they feel is best for their economic interest - seems like a pretty standard Thursday to me.

I wonder why Jesse Jackson didn't object when the 80's childrens toy "My Monster" came out. Oh, maybe it's because it wasn't produced by some big company with deep pockets like Adidas, who he is hoping will pay him off to be quiet and go away. Jesse is well known for his shakedowns of major companies to avoid boycotts or bad publicity.
Here is just one of the more well-known cases, in which Coca Cola paid millions into Jackson's Rainbow Coalition and PUSH organizations, in addition to giving Coke distributorships to Jackson relatives and cohorts.-

Inspired by a toy, great. The fact that most kids likely to buy this shoe are AA youths...well let's just say shackles on ones ankles, much less prison orange just isn't a good marketing strategy. JJ, BO, AS or whomever it offends lets be honest, shackles can be representative of someone being a "lock down defender" but that's not what kids dream about is shutting down that's a guy on the court. They dream about hitting last second shots to win the game.

My personal thoughts about JJ aside, just a plain bad marketing strategy.

sooo I guess the target market for these shoes will automatically think of the 1980's children's cartoon character if they were to see these shoes in the store and on the street? smh

I think most people buy a model of shoe because they like them. The inspiration for the shoe designer has nothing to do with buyers' reasons for buying, I suspect.
I don't think most people would look at those shoes and immediately think they are racial.
Why not let the consumer decide if they are offensive? Baggy, droopy pants that show most of the wearer's underwear are offensive to a lot of people, but there are a lot of companies marketing them, and a lot of people buying them, and nobody suggested they should be banned or taken off the market.

I actually think that JJ has a point here with his criticism. He certainly has is right to voice his opinion about this. Personally, I could care less about those shoes as I find those and for that matter most Air Jordan shoes ugly. As much as I detest the baggy pants style, there are not slave references with that style. -- and if a person looks hard enough on the Internet, I am certain that a boycott or two could be found for baggy pants. Lol.
