  • New NCAA change in recruiting rules to start next week

June 15 is the beginning of new NCAA recruiting rules. Starting that date, college coaches can call or text an unlimited number of times to high school juniors and seniors. Some people are calling it "Textageddon".

    Somewhere, Kelvin Sampson is smiling.

It is already rumored that some coaches have set up systems to text virtually non-stop to try to drown out other coaches, in their attempt to land key recruits.

Are they doing that to a player they actually want or just to prevent someone else from getting a kid that they have no interest in? That would drive me insane.
I can do all things through pasta, which strengthens me.

I feel bad for the athletes that will be bothered by allowing this to happen.

If a school like Alabama would go through the trouble of sending 100 letters at the same time to a top recruit, imagine how many texts that same recruit would get from Alabama. I would be tossing my phone in the garbage if it was non stop texts all day every day.

It will be interesting to see how kids like these new texting/phone rules. The L.A. Times article above reports that many higher profile recruits are getting a second cell phone to distribute that number to coaches so the messages don't clog up their regular cell phones.

WEEK/WHOI's Jim Mattson has a report about the new NCAA rules regarding unlimited text/calling rules. There are interviews with Coach Geno Ford and Pekin's Nate Taphorn-
