  • Coach Calipari offering $7,500 Kentucky fantasy camp

Coach Calipari's $7,500 Kentucky fantasy camp-

As the article says, $7,500 is not the highest priced college fantasy camp around. Coach Krzyzewski at Duke has had a $10,000 price on his yearly fantasy camp and does not seem to have any trouble filling it each year with people willing to fork out that kind of dough-
America's number one college basketball fantasy camp, K Academy, will return to historic Cameron Indoor Stadium in 2019.

Coach K's fantasy campers from this year-
Live, train, and feel Duke Basketball at America’s #1 College Basketball Fantasy Camp, K Academy. Held annually at Duke University in Durham, NC.

You mean to tell me, Calipari gets these guys to come to Ky to play bb without paying THEM?

His camp is "limited" to 80 participants at $7,500 each, and they also offer 12 Captain's Club slots at $12,500 apiece (not sure if this is 12 people in addition to the 80 regular campers), and runs from Sept. 13-16.

80 x $7,500 = $600,000 in new revenue just for a 4 day camp using players and others who "volunteer" their services. That is way more than the total yearly budgets for a lot of small and mid-major universities. I suspect a big chunk of that money goes toward Coach Cal's $5.3 million a year salary, but it does demonstrate the massive gap between the elite "pro" level schools, and the rest of the schools.

I dont understand why people think that Kentucky pays there players. There is a reason why they get some of the tops recruits, and it because they are the top program in college basketball right now.

There is a history with Kentucky, and there is a history with Calipari.

There is even a history with their current star player.

And don't forget the Emery Freight package sent by U of K coaches to recruit Chris Mills that fell open and spilled out $1000...

that probably wouldn't make me think UK ever cheated...

Every team pays their recruits Bradley and SIU included. Kentucky and programs like theirs just pay more.

I think that is an overgeneralization- BU has been scrutinized as much as any D1 school and nobody has found evidence that any BU recruit was ever paid...

Let me modify my statement, I don't want to accuse the schools. Every recruit gets paid, recruits to the big schools just get more. I believe the schools and the coaches in most instances have nothing to do with it.

The only reason I suggest this is because I had a good friend who was marginally recruited out of high school. Ultimately he ended up going D-2 but small payments were rolling in from everywhere.
