Butler had planned on moving to the Atlantic 10 after next season, but apparently the Horizon League was not happy about them competing one more year as a lame duck, and was considering making them ineligible to win the conference tournament, thus blocking them from the automatic Horizon Conference bid. Thus Butler has moved up their switch to this year.
The unexpectedly quick move to the A-10 means Butler is looking for extra games on their schedule. They will have only 16 conference games in the A-10, instead of 18 in the Horizon, and they must also drop out of the BracketBusters games. They also had to drop 1 other game Butler had scheduled against a non-D1 school, which is against Atlantic-10 rules. So they are now looking to add 4 more games.
I have heard they contacted Bradley, but since Bradley's non-conference schedule is full for next season, they will instead work on a future home-and-home series.
