  • Movement on the Nic Moore saga...

FWIW -- Nic is reportedly getting tired of waiting to see if any of the three schools that have contacted him will actually offer a scholarship....
He is reportedly beginning to figure out he may be a fall back option and is being played by the big schools - so he finally has decided to open up to lesser options...
now he is reportedly going to visit at SMU and consider an offer that his old coach, Jank, might give him from among the open rides that exist after new SMU head coach Larry Brown cleaned house...
Also being reported is that Cincy has also contacted Moore...

Moore may be wishing he did not listen to his "handlers" and stayed at ISU...and since ISU has signed Kaza Keane (who may be better than Moore) and now Geoffrey Allen--I don't think they have any room for Moore to return to the Birds (even if he wanted to come back). Even though I despise the Redbirds--I have to admit I liked watching Dan Muller as a player...and I am afraid that he will turn in to a very good head coach/recruiter at ISU.

Nic Moore is a very good player and anyone that does not believe he can play against BCS teams has not seen him play, he is exactly what a point guard is all about as he handles the ball well, passes well, shoots well and makes everyone around him better.

This is all true real fan. But at the "big boy" BCS level there are players who are just like Nic Moore... only they're 6" taller.

.........some interesting comments and rumors that Moore will land at SMU - who are extremely likely to be bottom dwellers in the Big East for a long time to come....
Nic could have had a fine MVC career - a career that like JL's or Hersey's, or Kyle Korver's or even possiby that of DJ Cooper - could have set Nic Moore up for a lifetime of playing professionally...

Now - if he languishes at SMU and plays out his career as a decent player on a horrible team (like some of the guys on DePaul recently..), it's possible nobody will ever give them a look......

Nic does have excellent point guard skills....but at 5'7"...I believe he will be a defensive liability matching up against many BCS guards with similar skills--they likely would be able to shoot over him with relative ease? Guess we will see where he lands and how it works out--but I think he may regret leaving the Valley--where he would have had continued success. Here is an interesting read on the Valley from CBS sports--

I believe when Jank left he said he would not be recruiting any of the ISU players. Either he has gone back on his word- or - the fact that Nic bailed out before Jank...

or Nic is asking Jank for a place not the other way.

ISU would be foolish not to find some way to allow Moore back on the team if he wishes. This Keane guy may or may not be all-MVC, but Moore has already proven it.

                      Memo to Nic Moore:
A FEW FACTS THAT MAY HAVE GONE OVER YOUR HEAD (no pun intended)...

I just got done looking over everything said on each of five different message boards that I found that were SMU message boards...

First -- beware that 99% of all talk by all SMU fans is about football - and even though they do have some basketball fans - so precious few of them
ever have enough interest or enough passion about SMU hoops to ever talk about it.

Second -- even the few posts on their basketball forums are almost all from way back in April and further back and not one person on any of their message boards has yet to think their connection to you is even worth a mention - so you are apparently A COMPLETE UNKNOWN TO THEM -- and also to their PRESS AND MEDIA WHO HAVE NOT PUBLISHED A SINGLE BASKETBALL RELATED STORY IN WEEKS despite all that's been going on down there.

Lastly - if SMU is what you are basically down to now - then note how much respect you get from the people who used to write good things about you --
they are stunned you'd go to SMU and the press down there doesn't even know you exist...hey - they don't even know an SMU basketball team exists!
Oddly they even covet the Illini recruiting castoffs but no mention of Nic Moore

It looks like ISU has moved on. Letting a guy that quit back on the team would be a terrible way for a new coach to start out at a program.

                          New option being rumored...
would it be a good move if Nic Moore went for one year to some high level juco the way Fabyon Harris, Pierre Jackson, and Ricardo Ratliffe did,
then get national attention, become the target of a big time bidding war, then take your pick of the best offers......?

I really don't see what more the kid can do to show what he is. How would this improve his stock after excelling as a freshman in a very competitive D1 conference? I'm shocked he hasn't landed anywhere yet. Maybe he's getting bad advice or being too choosy? I still think he ends up at Illinois. Why wouldn't the Illini want a kid like this? They desperately need a PG.

Because of his quickness and his ability to score I think Nic Moore can play anywhere. If he's going to a BCS school he'd need to play for a team that plays zone. Clearly a case of him wanting the bigger spotlight, being a bigger fish in a bigger pond.
