  • The future of college sports?

    from the associated press:
Major League Baseball would fund scholarships and exert greater influence over Division I college baseball under what would be an unprecedented partnership with the NCAA.
If an agreement is reached, it would be the first of its kind and could lead other professional organizations enter partnerships with the NCAA.

so the big money from professional sports is going to flow into amateur and college sports....
I don't think this is new - just that they are trying to find a way to legitimatize it...

      Say bye-bye to the Chiefs
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!

        I don't think so.

I agree because 100% control is better then influencing and college ball will be in the same league as single A ball. I like the idea to some extent but I'd like to see what the parameters will be before jumping to any real conclusion.

Minor league baseball is its own niche market as well. College and minor league baseball provide no competition for each other. With the way MLB develops (and rehabs) players the minor league system is important, and college baseball can't replace it.

I'm unaware of monkeys riding dogs at any college baseball game also. College baseball cannot compete with that level of awesome.

The entertainment at a Whitecaps game was one of the strangest things I've ever seen...

Ack, it's exactly that bush league stuff that drives me away from the Chiefs. And that whole "we lost $1 Million this year" thing this year might be some sort of hint that it doesn't play in Peoria. That and the downtown ballpark MAY have been a waste of money. But hey, what do I know?
You may be right that college ball won't compete with minor league ball, but I'll say that personally I'd rather go support the Braves on the field because they play in a league that actually matters. If it were still a Cardinals farm team, I might have different thoughts on the matter.
