some of the statements don't add up.. I think MR is simply being the good guy and taking the high road.....
but that story acts like Roth suddenly found himself in year-five with an extra year of eligibilty and that situation was startling, unheard-of, and unexpected.
Baloney - it happens all the time - in our program alone over the last few years we've had Nate Wells, Anthony Thompson, Andrew Warren, Will Egolf, Sam Singh, etc...all knowing well in advance that they'd be here for a 5th year (even a 6th) with the coaching staff making all the right steps and assuring the opportunity would be there for the taking if he wanted it...
Had any one of those players been told to take a hike, there wasn't a scholarship available, we didn't see it coming, we gave your ride away, or that it was hard to find a way to keep them here - our staff would have been ripped to pieces by critics and in the press for being so cruel!
Matt says...
"They tried in every way to make it possible for me to return.
I knew it would take a lot of things that nobody could control.
Indiana currently has 13 players on scholarship, the maximum allowed by the
NCAA, meaning there isn't a scholarship for Roth."
?? Nobody could control that situation??? All those new players hogging all the scholarships were an uncontrollable situation?? Don't make me laugh...
-- Matt had his scholarship way, way, way before any of those guys did and the coaching staff could easily & clearly see that he'd be eligible for a redshirt year long, long ago...
...so IF there suddenly isn't a scholarship available - it's because Crean made absolutely ZERO effort to assure there would be, and he intentionally overrecruited and gave "Roth's" scholarship to someone else.
Good for Matt that he harbors no remorse, but what happened is clearly not fair to MR.
