"But instead lets just hate while their MBB and WBB programs play blackjack against BU. Twenty-One in a row, seven by the Men & 14 by their women." ~NSBF

    Career as head coach - 6 seasons - 74-101
I like Rob Judson - but I have a feeling the fans at ISU will not be patient with this selection...

Fortunately for Friedman the only fans left that are attending games are Disciples of Judson! The laid back fan that sits on his hands...and gets mad when the student's support the team! This is a terrible hire for the Birds! On the brite side...they can't lose anymore fans! The 3000 fans that do attend will be happy.

That looks like a good short-term hire.

It will be interesting to see if there is a very different scheduling philosophy right away. It may be too late in the game for next year, but there are always opportunities to take a buy game and play a big name opponent.

Rob is a wonderful guy. I got to know him a little during his 5 seasons at Bradley as an assistant to Jim Molinari (1991-1996). He'll work as hard as anyone. But Rob's personality is even a lot more laid back than Jank's.

          Judson's record at NIU -
          2001-02 12-16
          2002-03 17-14
          2003-04 10-20
          2004-05 11-17
2005-06 17-11 (won the MAC West Division)
          2006-07 7-23

Here is the press release from when Judson was fired from Northern Illinois in 2007-

"This was a difficult decision," said NIU Athletic Director Jim Phillips. "While our program has made strides in many areas under Coach Judson and his staff, we have not sustained the levels of competitive success and support necessary to continue on this path. Therefore I felt that a change was necessary."

It's not hard to read between the lines. Beside not winning enough games, the fan support in terms of attendance and donations fell way off at a crucial time when NIU had just moved into their new arena.

By the way, has either BU or ISU had a head coach that had been as assistant coach at the other school first?

Not so fast, according to "sources high within the Illinois State University administration". Just minutes ago they issued this denial that a coaching decision was made-

Contrary to published reports, sources high within the Illinois State University administration tell WJBC that no decision has been made on the men’s head basketball coaching position.

...meaning they hadn't informed the other candidates yet. Or there is a change of heart. More than likely, the former.

Pantagraph declares Judson new ISU-R Coach?

Reminds me of another media gaffe:

As the story says, the Pantagraph's Jim Benson isn't the first person to ever get a story wrong...
but he is classy enough to apologize sincerely, take full responsibility, blame nobody else, and give an understandable explanation instead of just blaming errors on the police reports and delays by other agencies in getting info out as some did in another paper I know...
