  • Current coaching relationships not what they once were

Friendships and mentoring aren't dead in the coaching profession. Not by a long shot. But thanks to a win-at-all-costs mentality, it's not so easy to be friendly with other coaches anymore. There's just too much at stake.

What a great article T. This makes everyone understand how cut throat this business is. It's great to hear the good ol' days stories in any profession. College coaching is one of my favorites. It's a shame that this is where it is heading.

I think we all like to reminisce about the "good old days" POB, including these older coaches. I agree that the coaching business is more cutthroat today but I still think these coaching "relationships" exist with the young up-and-comers in the ranks. Maybe just not with these established old coaches that are quoted in the article.

I think most young coaches still need and appreciate a helping hand and mentor in the coaching profession. It's just that they are making their relationships with younger coaches than the Barnes, Calhouns, Coach Ks, and Williams of the coaching world. These older guys simply see things from their viewpoint... Just like I may see things differently than a 20 or 30-something.
