More conference realignment- Utah State and San Jose State to join the Mountain West Conference in 2013
Boise State is set to join the WAC in all other sports, but multiple sources said the Broncos are trying to get in the Big West as well now that the WAC is falling apart.

Anyone with the Valley know if they're moving for any teams at all?

Still no official MWC/CUSA merger though, but it may be just a matter of time. In the meantime the poor WAC is about ready to become history with only two teams left in 2013!

I haven't heard anything as of this time, but again, I don't think there's any reason for anyone to leave now that the A-10 has completed their realignment. That, and I think the Valley is pretty solid as it is now anyway.

No talk of additions either? I like the Valley as it is, but as previous posters have said, watch out for Horizon trying to nab Evansville after their loss of the marquee Butler.

Did Hawaii leave the WAC for the PAC 12 or whatever it is now?

Hawaii moved to the Mountain West last year, along with Nevada and Fresno State. The Mountain West will merge with the Conference USA next year.
After this fall, the WAC will have only 2 football members left. Of the 16 WAC teams from their 1996 expansion, 8 will be in the Mountain West in 2013, 3 will be in Conference USA, 2 will be in the Big East and one each will be in the Pac-12, Big 12 and an independent. None will still be in the WAC.
Only Idaho and New Mexico State will remain in the WAC after this fall. Here is the rundown-

New Mexico State is considering moving back to the Sun Belt-

Everything I have heard recently says that the MWC/CUSA merger is most likely NOT going to happen.

There's a strong possibility CUSA is about to add 6 schools. There's rumblings everywhere.

Of the top 14 conferences in the country (based on last year's conference RPI), the Valley is now the only conference that has not or will not experience a change in basketball membership in the 2011-2013 timeframe.

A-10 isn't done guys. They're now at 13 teams if Charlotte bolts to park their upstart. football program in CUSA. With Old Dominion also about to do the same, it's possible GMU and VCU bail on an unstable CAA, but now the A-10 may just want one of the two. Of course, there's rumblings the MAC is about to invoke their all-sports clause on UMass because Temple left.

Butler is officially set to join the Atlantic 10 next season. They played a non-conference game last night at Xavier. Xavier was picked 9th this year in the A 10 preseason poll, and Butler was expected to be a stronger team this year, yet Xavier beat Butler easily 62-47

Maybe Butler underestimated the level of competition they'll face in the A 10?

When Butler jettisoned Chrishawn Hopkins in September as a result of an accumulation of team rules violations, it was easy to assume the Bulldogs could absorb the loss of a guard who averaged a modest 9.1 points per game last … Continue reading

I doubt that they underestimated the level of competition, as I'm sure that they recognize that they "aren't in Kansas anymore". The good news for them is that a 4th or 5th place team in the A10 gets in the tournament, whereas in the Horizon they needed a top 2 finish.

Butler is already a member of the A10 this year. The league is at 16 teams until Temple and Charlotte leave after this season.

And as Gary said, fifth in the A10 can still mean a tournament bid.

Thanks for the correction. However, this game was not a conference game, since it was scheduled ahead of Butler's move to the A 10.

I don't know Butler's schedule this year, but it's possible they may end up playing Xavier four times this year if you include the A-10 tournament. Maybe even five times if the end up playing each other in the Final Four.

Whether it's three, four or five times, Butler will have a shot at beating Xavier. But that was surprising they looked that bad against a perennial NCAA Tournament participant that was supposed to have a down year this year. Maybe Xavier is better than a lot of people have made them out to be.
