The Pantagraph has a column speculating on several candidates...
but here's what's known --
Jank was a well paid HEAD COACH who left to take a spot somewhere else as an assistant. He really never achieved the MAIN benchmark of success at ISU - that is - getting them to the NCAA Tournament.....he also never won the Valley nor the Valley Tournament.
So - This is quite unusual - you can only find it happening a few times...and generally only when the guy is leaving a really LOW midmajor like when Dane Fife left IPFW to take an asst spot at Michigan State ..
There is a desire among some fans to hire someone with ties to ISU so there's a chance of more loyalty...but the final choice isn't up to the fans.
This kinda proves the philosophy that most head coaches are looking more to advance their own careers than to advance the program.
Jank leaves behind a lot of ISU fans who believe that with Janks record of horrid scheduling, and his absent post-season success, that they are just as happy to be rid of him as he was to get out of Blo-No!
In the interval since Jank and his whole staff were hired - ISU now has a new athletic director..hired in 2011.
As we have seen many times - a new Athletic Director may not want to keep all the old guys on the staff and may want to make a pick that is his and goes in a different direction - we saw this at Illinois several times and at BU.
So IMO, look for all or most all of the ISU assistant coaching staff to be gone-
Anthony Beane - whose son was one of ISU's 2012 recruits,
and Paris Parham - who was hired to keep Osiris Eldridge happy and strengthen Chicago connections,
and maybe even Rob Judson...
This Pantagraph column seems to be saying Judson is the only one of the current staff that was offered a spot - and that he's not surer what he'll do...
So, I think the new ISU AD is gonna clean them all out and go another direction....but time will tell...
The AD Gary Friedman is from Louisville - so look for him to check out at least a few Big East Assistants or assistants of schools out east.
