  • 10 Best Players in MVC History

Who would you put on this list...and .........

only ONE from each current MVC team is allowed...

The reason I ask is that I just read this flashback & interview with with Evansville player Larry Humes, who I have to admit I do NOT recall well - but the writer admits that Humes was a teammate in the 1960's of Jerry Sloan...so I guess I have to wonder why he picks Humes over Sloan?

BUT -- my 10 BEST are:

Bradley: Chet Walker, then Hersey a close 2nd
    Creighton: Kyle Korver
    Drake: Lewis Lloyd
    Evansville: Jerry Sloan
Illinois State: ..really can't think of anyone, was tempted to go with Bubbles Hawkins but will pick Doug Collins instead!
Indiana State: let's see....I'll pick that Bird guy...
Missouri State: Winston Garland - doesn't own a lot of career records because he only played two yrs there
Northern Iowa: This one's tough - go with Jason Daisy
Southern Illinois: Walt Frazier - how can anyone pick Darren Brooks ahead of Walt?
Wichita State: Xavier McDaniel but Carr, Levingston and Stallworth were all great players

Re: 10 Best Players in MVC History

The only disagreement is that some of those players never played a single game in the MVC.
Jerry Sloan (UE), Doug Collins (ISU), and Walt Frazier (SIU) all played for their teams before they became part of the MVC.

Benjamin was a flop at the NBA level. But ex-Creighton player Paul Silas has a great college and pro career.

I'm was amazed no one had Wes Unseld in there. He is one of the most unique Basketball Hall of Famers ever.

But then I read CURRENT Valley teams. It all makes sense now.

And in response to Da Coach's Paul Silas nomination, I'd have to agree. I mean, he's STILL throwing around NBA players!

I saw him play at Creighton and there was always something missing for his game to call him great. I remember Big Mike Williams schooling him!

but if you read the original article - the list was limited to..

Only ONE from each current MVC team is allowed......
thus Oscar Robertson, Unseld, and many others are left off while Frazier, Sloan, Collins - who never played at a time their teams were MVC members...are in
