  • 2012 Mountain West-MVC Challenge

Bradley does not play in the 2012 Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge, but the 9 games involving the other teams from each conference have been set-

Nov. 17 ??” San Diego State at Missouri State
Nov. 28 ??” Boise State at Creighton; Fresno State at Southern Illinois
Dec. 1 ??” Wichita State at Air Force; Evansville at Colorado State; Drake at Nevada; New Mexico at Indiana State
Dec. 4 ??” Wyoming at Illinois State
Dec. 19 ??” Northern Iowa at UNLV

Some interesting matchups. The 2 best MVC teams will get matched up with the 2 worst MWC teams. Wichita State gets Air Force, and Creighton gets Boise State. The tied for last place at 3-11 in the MWC last year.
Fresno State and Nevada join the MWC next year.

Here is last year's MWC standings-

    New Mexico.....10-4.....28-7
    San Diego St...10-4.....26-8
    UNLV...............9-5.....26-9
    Colorado St......8-6.....20-12
    TCU................7-7.....18-15
    Wyoming..........6-8.....21-12
    Air Force.........3-11.....13-16
    Boise St..........3-11.....13-17

So our 3 best teams get Boise, Air Force, and Wyoming

And their top 3 get Missouri St, Indiana St, and Northern Iowa (UNI @ UNLV may or may not be helpful)

What in the world are we doing in this challenge if we can't get things lined up a little better? I'd expect some better coordination.

What's the kid's name? Are we considering him?

Don't know if Bradley is recruiting him, but he is an interesting possibility. He did not play much as a freshman at AFA, but is a tremendous 6'6" shooter. He had an outstanding high school career, lead the state of Mississippi in scoring his junior year, and lead his team to a state championship his senior year. He was the MVP of the Mississippi-Alabama high school All Star game despite many of the players committed to high major D1 schools.

He has left AFA, and is now looking for a new school. His family now lives in Metamora, where his father is the new head basketball coach at Metamora High School.

The head coach of Metamora is Danny Grieves

..he's new and came from Mississippi
His son..played in 2011-2012 at Air Force Academy but never entered a game, then left the team

He is supposedly a Jeremy Crouch type and a good outside shooter ....

Since he never entered a game, would he then be able to play right away next year?

No he is required to sit out a year like any D1 to D1 transfer.

I know we all suspected this was coming....but after this fall, the MVC/MWC Challenge will NOT be renewed...

"Missouri Valley associate commissioner Mike Kern said the challenge with the Mountain West will not continue once the original four-year contract expires after next season.
Instead the Valley is exploring other potential scheduling arrangements with other leagues or select teams in other leagues."

                          Here's a Mountain West Preview
After a pair of disappointing one-and-done performances in last season's NCAA Tournament, UNLV and San Diego State are both eyeing a Mountain West title and a deep run in the 2013 big dance.

Here's how the guy sees the MWC this year...the top two teams should get votes in the national rankings
If they don't do well and if the MVC does, then they may still want to play us!

                          1- UNLV
                          2- San Diego State
                          3- Colorado State
                          4- New Mexico
                          5- Nevada
                          6- Fresno State
                          7- Wyoming
                          8- Air Force
                          9- Boise State
