  • Carl Hall vs. Taylor Brown

Is there a difference in their appeals?
Hall??™s problem is known as a ???clock issue.??? NCAA rules give Division I athletes five years to complete four seasons of eligibility from the time they enroll in college. Hall started his clock in 2007-08 when he attended Middle Georgia College. A heart condition ended his basketball season after three games. He attended Middle Georgia in 2008-09, but did not play basketball. He played there in 2009-10 and transferred to Northwest Florida State Community College for the 2010-11 season.

His clock starts when he enrolls full time in college or juco -
if he enrolled in 2007 as that article says then he should NOT get an extra year because he already used his redshirt

it is harsh but it is exactly why this kid who went to IU wasn't eligible at all..

The NCAA has declared Indiana center Guy-Marc Michel ineligible to play college basketball.

Basically it comes down to whether or not you consider sitting out a year because of a heart condition worthy of a medical hardship waiver. I think it should be, and therefore, think Hall should be granted an extra year, just like TB should have been had he chosen to apply for it.

amettrick - it's a given that he sat that year out but he also sat out another year while deciding what school to go to..
if he wants the 6th year then he'd have to prove there was also a medical reason for the other redshirt year - and at least from the article - it seems there was not - just as was the case for Taylor Brown...
