Better question.....do they not have the confidence in finding a new coach that can take them to the NIT?

Is this being misunderstood ? I am thinking this 5 year contract has nothing to do with him staying or going.

Yeah....I don't know why it would have anything to do with anything if it was done last month.

              This is also confusing.....

              from PJStar...
The Tim Jankovich story took an odd twist Friday with the revelation that the Illinois State basketball coach had signed a five-year contract extension at Illinois State following the season in March.
Prior to the extension, the coach already had multiple years remaining on his deal with ISU.

              from ESPN...
Jankovich has five years left on his current contract and hasn't given Illinois State any indication that he is leaving.

If the local paper is doing a story on the guy, why wouldn't they report how many years are left on his current contract. The way I read the PJS article is that he has more than 5 years left.

Yes. The initial post is likely not correct. It was based on some Twitter reports of a new contract with ISU. But probably those reports were confusing the contract he signed in March. There does not appear to be a new contract. He is apparently still undecided about whether to take SMU's offer.

Here is the latest. This article reports the new contract deal that Jankovich signed in March, which lead to some reports yesterday that there was a new deal just completed.

One guy named as a prospect for Larry Brown to hire as asst just got hired elsewhere - so the field is narrowed...

That same page has a reader survey/poll as to who the fans want to see hired, and Tim Jankovich is winning the poll by a landslide - getting 57% of all votes!!

SMU pulls the scholarships of four players that the coaches have never even seen play....
Even the SMU fans are a bit concerned about this trend... (although even in the midst of all their basketball changes and news, football posts outnumber basketball 20 to 1)
