ESPN is reporting that Larry Brown has accepted the SMU job, but Brown is denying that.

ESPN reports that the hold-up apparently is Jankovich, who is demanding a written contract that guarantees that he will succeed Brown as head coach.
I guess $1 million dollars a year isn't enough for Jank.

But according to sources, the only holdup involves Brown's assistants. Brown has offered Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich a "coach-in-waiting" position, sources said. A source close to Brown told Katz that Jankovich is waiting to get a written contract that guarantees he would be the next head coach after the 71-year-old Brown's departure.

Kansas coach Bill Self, who worked with Jankovich at Tulsa, Illinois and Kansas, said he hadn't talked to Jankovich in "two or three days."

"One thing I do know," Self said, "is that he loves Larry."

Did he not have a signed contract with isu for this upcoming season? Hopefully the same people saying this isn't being disloyal felt the same way about a certain Bradley player who graduated from Bradley, was still on a year-to-year scholarship, and decided to play his last eligible season at another school. That player was called a traitor and told to "break a leg" upon making his choice.

You are comparing Apples and Oranges. Jank is a coach, Sam was a player. Jank is going across the country to a team that will be in the BCS shortly, in an awesome southern city. Sam went down the road to what I consider a rival school. Jank will be leaving with his head held high after carrying ISU to some strong seasons. Sam left at a time of transition, potentially because his parents did not like the way his coach was treated. Jank is following someone who he has a relationship with and respects fairly deeply. Sam went to the program that he thought might give him a shot at the dance, I don't know that he has any other connection with U of I. Jank won't make excuses about majors when he left. Sam did.

If you want to make snide comments and trash posters, square your logic up first.

And P.S. I wanted Sam to do well, even if I was hurt when he left. I promise you that I knew Sam personally better than you did, and while it hurt me to see him in that god-awful orange, I never wanted him to get hurt. So, in short don't label me as one of those naysayers if you don't have a logical response to my post.

First of all, I don't recall trashing posters. Also, I didn't label you a "naysayer". In fact, I would love for you to find even one reference to you in ANY post I've EVER made.

I'm sure the guy signed a contract and now he doesn't want to honor that contract. I don't know how that wouldn't be considered disloyal by people that called out a student athlete that graduated from a school and chose to play his final year of eligibility at the BCS state school. He was called a traitor and told to "break a leg". Classy stuff. Once a Brave, Always a Brave. Right? Unless, of course, you're talking about Sam or poking fun at a former coach/player that has also moved on.

Again, just to be perfectly clear.......I'm NOT talking about you. Also, to be clear....this is my opinion and I don't expect everyone to agree with it. That's the wonderful thing about opinions! It's obvious there is a segment of Bradley fans that don't agree with it.

For the record, I don't consider Jank to be disloyal and completely understand his reasons for making this choice. I feel the same about Sam, even though I don't know him personally like you do. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything anyways. I don't know Jank either, but I can still form my very own opinion and agree or disagree with his choice.

The latest report suggests that SMU has reached an agreement with Tim Jankovich, and they have officially announced Larry Brown as their new coach, as well as the other 2 assistants Jerrance Howard and Rod Strickland.

Now the Pantagraph is suggesting the deal with Jank is not finalized-

this is turning into a soap opera.

or as the ISU fans call it, a circus...
anyway - this whole scene proves again it's not WHAT you know or how you have performed - it's WHO you know....and Jank is apparently good buds with Larry Brown..
