Jank to SMU - "leaning toward accepting the job"

If I'm Jank I would take it in a heart beat. There is nothing but an upside for him. Larry Brown should turn this program around and Jank can then take advantage of what is built for yet another promotion."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

loyalty carries only so far...Jank has given a good chunk of his life to ISU - he's not being disloyal to take the SMU job....
but every D-I coach is competitive and wants to complete at the highest level -so I cannot imagine he'd turn down a move that's guaranteed
to make him a Big East head coach in a couple years...
Then when you throw in the $$ - he would of course look for the security of his family and there's absolutely no way ISU can counteroffer a mil...

But a good chunk of his life at ISU? He is 52 years old and has spent 5 years at ISU.

One thing is being overlooked here. Jank gets to go make head coach money for a couple of years before the clock even starts ticking on him. No accountability, no pressure. For someone who scheduled as gutless as he did and always made excuses, isn't this his dream scenario? Compared to a Keno Davis who took the Providence job for big $$ and had the pressure on him right away and was fired within two years? Jank could be terrible at SMU and still get $1 million plus for four years. Worst case scenario after that is he gets fired and ends up with Bill Self or some other high profile program as a top assistant and enough money from the SMU gig to retire comfortably.
If he stays at ISU he has HIGH pressure to make the Dance, and could be on the rocks if he doesn't. My guess is he will duck the challenge and take the cupcake for a couple of years.

SMU may be a latteral step (or less) now (for basketball)---but for that kind of money & the promise of being the head coach soon in the best basketball conference...hard to turn down that opportunity IMO.

I don't see a lack of loyalty here at all, he's not taking off in the middle of a season, he's not making any drama by having this discussion swirl around him during the playoffs. He's done very well for ISU in the last few years by their standards, if they want him to be loyal, offer him the money to make him loyal. I agree with what other folks have said, this is a business, and a business decision.ONCE A BRAVE... ALWAYS A BRAVE

I guess my bigger question is this: why does SMU like Jank enough to make him coach-in-waiting of a Big East team?
