You have to get the "best of the best" and win right away.
Maybe it's the opposite- I think he is secure in his own ability to recruit and coach and he wants complete control over the selection of his staff and is not willing to accept someone thrust on him by the administration that could be a threat to his job down the line.

BUT - Memphis still wants the kid -

Problem is that having been kicked out of school, now the kid may have trouble qualifying - but then, it's Memphis - and they'll find a way...unless the kid gets a call from Bill Self first...as is hinted in some talk on the Kansas board...
You just can't make this stuff up......

Practically every player Memphis has recruited since Derrick Rose's ineligibility cost them 30 forfeits has been ruled ineligible or suspended at one time or another...

...warning - this is an old thread resurrected to followup on Geron Johnson
anyone see the ESPN game last night Memphis-Tennessee?
Memphis did indeed find a way to get Geron Johnson on campus and qualified...and he's pretty good - helping Memphis to beat Tennessee...
He is one of Memphis' key players....

Anyway - ex-BU recruit Stan Simpson barely touched the floor - he was scoreless in one garbage minute, but did pick up two fouls
