  • Former Bradley radio voice & play-by-play guy Ken Brown to be honored by White Sox

This name will be a bit obscure to many but Ken Brown did the play-by-play for Bradley basketball for just a few seasons long before Dave Snell took over.....overlapping Mort Cantor...
..Ken also worked as station manager for WIRL, but is now long retired.
I have learned via a source that Ken and his father, a 103-year-old Chicago resident are BOTH going to be honored before Friday's home game by the White Sox.
Very likely the ceremonies which will include "an attempt" to throw out the first pitch - won't get coverage on TV, but Ken's dad is reportedly a pretty well known LIFETIME White Sox fan who the owners of the Sox know well - and they wanted to do something to honor him on his 103rd birthday...

Probably a bit remote for many to recognize but Ken Brown did the WMBD radio play-by-play broadcasts of Bradley basketball back in the 70's before Dave Snell started doing them...

Just wanted to offer condolences to Ken Brown on the passing of his wife of 57 years - Jackie Brown. She was an awesome lady - and once provided to me some old Bradley stuff including game films...

Bradley can claim a whole lot of great sports broadcasters - not just Dave Snell but Jack Brickhouse, Charlie Steiner, Ralph Lawler, etc...

        here's the next generation...
a guy originally from Morton, IL, graduated from Bradley and former Rivermen broadcaster....
and is now is taking over as Bridgeport Sound Tigers (minor league hockey) communications manager and play-by-play broadcaster.

I know Loren Brown did Bradley games before he went to the White Sox. I got to know him and hated to see him leave. Don't know if he is still around ir not.

Thanks T. I lost track of him when he left the Sox, but I used to tip a few with him at the LanWan Inn in West Peoria and always made sure to wave to him in the broadcast booth at the old Comiskey Park.
