  • Recruits visiting

I have heard that this Friday Tymell Murphy will be visiting Bradley (see recruiting board for more info). Ty Murphy is a 6'5" wing player for South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. South Plains just recently won the NJCAA championship and completed a perfect 36-0 season. Ty averaged 10 ppg and 6.6 rpg on a team loaded with talent.
In high school in Brooklyn, Ty averaged 26.4 ppg and 10.5 rpg. He spent his first season at Mohawk Valley CC in Utica, New York where he averaged 16.5 ppg, then transferred to South Plains.

In addition, at least 1 other visitor will be here Friday. A big potential transfer.

Yes, I mean a big kid. 6'9", and listed at 290 pounds, but I suspect he could weigh more than that. The potential transfer coming this weekend is Matt Stainbrook. He was Western Michigan's 2nd leading scorer, and leading rebounder- 11.4 ppg and 6.8 rpg, and would have been their leading returning scorer and rebounder, but he apparently had a falling out with the coach and was released March 16.
He would definitely give us an inside presence we could use, but as a D1 transfer, he would not be eligible until the 2013-2014 season.

So he would have one year of eligibility remaining after sitting out one year??? Hope he doesn't get bigger sitting on our bench if he comes here next year.
          Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Not to make "light" of his "weight" (no pun there - right?), but sitting out an extra year for a guy with a weight issue and other issues would be a risk IMO. And to fill up a scholarship with, like T said, a guy that doesn't fit our immediate needs, would not be sensible.

On the other hand, if he gets into better shape - loses 20 lbs., he could be a good low-post scorer in the league given his scoring ability from last year (accord. to stats). We would have a sizeable front line in 2013-'14 with:
            NW (7'1")
            MS (6'9" - 290)
            JP (6'9" - 245)
            TP (6'6")

Maybe because as of right now Wichita has a winning program.

I agree with your assessment that we need PG, shooters, and scorers. BUT, IMO (and I feel many a BU faithful will agree with me here) we also need a big boy downlow who can bang and help reduce the amount of wide-open layups and dunks that you often pointed out over the course of the season. I think we know what we will get with WE and NW is a project from what I've heard...so I don't think this would be too bad of a pick-up. Again, this is my opinion.

Agreed. Long term thinking, (more wins 2-3 years from now) it would be a great help to have a large big in practice this year. Shooters have off-nights so you need established bigs to win consistently.

Our coaches know they need to beef up our interior defense with "enforcer" types. That is specifically what they like about Tyshon Pickett, and I suspect it is what appeals to them regarding Stainbrook.

It's difficult to imagine that he won't end up at Xavier.

Xavier is looking at other options that would appear to be more likely for them. I suspect Stainbrook is a fall-back option for them.
