Ridiculously Early Top 25 (and one): Calipari, Kentucky reload, are No. 1

    Creighton is at #25

  • #2
Is Kentucky going to change their team name to the "Reloaders"?
Maybe the "Freeloaders"? (up for debate, but their coach is sleezily suspicious)
"Roadrunners"? (since core players hit the road after 1 year)

There is nothing sleezily about the players that go to Kentucky or the Kentucky program. Calapari just get all of the best players who are just looking to become eligible for the NBA draft. There is not a better place to get recognized by NBA scouts than Kentucky. Almost all of there games are on ESPN and CBS and other stations

Calapari not sleazy??? Come on man! Can he sell? Hell yea! He does go up against the best programs for the best talent and he consistently closes them. I'm sure he plays in the grey but then again most big time programs do as well.

Andy Katz at ESPN had Creighton around 18th in his 12-13' too early poll. Once again, not a team from the state of IL even sniffing a mention in anyone's poll.

I believe I made mention that there has been suspicion of his sleeziness, though I have a hard time believing he's done nothing...or even little under the counter.
He's a very good coach - one of the best in the modern era, but I just question his ethics, and there.s good reason for that.

In reality, Calipari probably doesn't have to pay anything under the table to top 1 and done players. All he has to do is land 1 or 2 top recruits, then for the other 3 spots, he can go out and almost guarantee a championship to them. That's all most of these 1 and done players want. A high chance at the championship and then getting their money in the NBA afterwards. Why take 10's of thousands of dollars to go to a school when you know your going to get millions the following year. I think most of them would rather win it all.

The players yes, the handlers NO. It's that simple and there is plenty of proof that funny business happens through the AAU program through coaches and parents.

Calipari, as well as many other of the most successful coaches who always seem to land the top talent know how to cheat the system without getting caught. Others in the system might get caught, but Cal won't. There is a reason that 2 of his previous Final Four appearances have been vacated, and a reason the Sun Times printed their article a year ago stating clearly that the family of Anthony Davis received $200,000 to go to Kentucky. They still stand behind their assertions, despite threats of lawsuits that never happened. Too bad, because it would have been fun seeing what came out under oath.

I have talked to former college coaches tell stories of what they have learned on the recruiting trail. I have head many stories from different coaches about the "bagmen" who are associated with some of the top programs. These are people who are not easy to connect to a specific school or coach, but who carry bags full of cash while visiting. It is actually quite easy to funnel cash to top recruits, their families, and their coaches and confidants to influence their college decisions. And it works. And you'd have to be foolish to think it doesn't happen when there are millions of dollars at stake to teams like Kentucky that can compete for national championships year after year.

BTW, here is another funny story showing some insight into Calipari's ego-

No, HE doesn't have to - but good chance that someone linked to him does. If other schools are doing this, do you really think that UK (given their head coach) is NOT?

Take a guy like Jim Tressel (OSU - football), who most would have thought he was upstanding and very ethical - yet he got caught cheating.
And to think that Coach C. is NOT caught up in this when he's already had a history? He's pretty slick.

Yes - I agree that most players would want to win it all (the NCAA tourney) than have thousands of dollars cash...IF THEY HAD A GREAT SHOT TO MAKE IT TO THE NBA to eventually make millions.

I'm not one to stray from the thread topic - sorry!

There are 3 B-10 teams that are suspect as being that good next season.
Will be great when we play the #5 team in the country next year in Carver Arena!!!
