  • Withey of KU

Is Withey from KU what we can expact from Wells next year? He blocks and alters shots on the defensive end. Weak around the basket on the offensive end but can get some put backs. The one thing I have heard about Nate is he is a better outside shotter than Withey. Watching Withey last night made me wonder what impact Nate will have next year?

I guess we can always hope but I think you have way to high of expectations.

You are probably right, I guess after last season I am looking for any hope there is out there for BU basketball.

Maybe after a year of playing we could expect something along those lines. Nate seems to run the floor well and he has to be able shoot better than Withey(those were some ugly attempts)......

It will be interesting to see how he develops the next few years

Here is the difference I see, and it'll be up to Nate to work hard to overcome-
Jeff Withey was a highly rated and highly skilled player in high school in San Diego. He was rated 4-stars, and had offers from some of the highest level programs, including Arizona, Kansas, Indiana, Syracuse, Texas, Boston College, and others.

Withey was the #36 rated player in the country, the #8 best center, and the #3 best player in California in 2008, according to Rivals.
On the other hand, Nate Wells probably wasn't the #3 best player on his high school team. He was not recruited by many schools, and didn't have any offers other than Bradley's. Nate is a classic late bloomer. Hopefully he can develop into a player who can give us solid minutes at center. He has already developed a consistent outside shot, something we haven't had a big man who could do since Chad Kleine, and I have heard he does have good defensive and shot-blocking instincts.

That last line could be a huge impact for us....and then just continue to improve offensively...

I haven't watched Kansas much this year but I wasn't impressed with Withey on the offensive side of the court...maybe he just didn't play well there last night....not just because he misse a few putbacks but he just didn't look very good doing it.

Withey, along with every other post player that has faced Kentucky all year, had to be cautious within a 15 ft. radius of Andrew Davis. Withey is a good player, but Andrew Davis is just so darn long, that you never, ever get a good shot off against him. He was blocking perimeter players last night and especially in the Louisville game. He has a very bright future.

He was definitely intimidated as were a few other Jayhawks as they just threw shots up there in the general direction sometimes

I thought I would add that I was impressed with Nate's bench presence this past season. He seems to have a positive attitude and is vocal, which is something that seems too often be missing as of late. On that note, Will also stood out on the sideline. Perhaps those two can somehow combine next year to become the vocal leaders we need.

I thought Andrew Davis was working on becoming a doctor...

Great point Da Coach. Expecting Nate to be like Withey is just crazy, pie-in-the-sky talk. Withey is a very good college player who I expect to have an NBA career. I'm just hoping for Nate to be a solid contributor before he graduates.

I love hearing about how Nate has been in the weight room working hard, pushing the other players in practice, and asking the coaches how he can make the team better. He seems like a great kid with a great attitude.

Expecting him to give us what the starting center on a final four team gave his team is not realistic. See the expectations for Anthony Thompson...

I expect him to be able to contribute his junior and senior years. I am happy to use a scholarship on a 7 footer who has a great attitude and works hard. Size + work ethic can get you far in the Valley.
