The Big West (which includes UC-Davis) adds both Hawaii and San Diego State next year and Sacramento State also joins the Big West for certain sports

The Big West just got a lot stronger with the addition of Hawaii and especially San Diego State. SDS is ranked ninth in a CBS preseason top 25 poll, and 24th in an unofficial ESPN preseason poll. I don't know why SDS left the Mountain West other than the potential longer travel distances that a combined MWC/CUSA conference would bring. But in the Big West, SDS has a great chance to dominate or at the very least compete each year for the top with Long Beach St. and hopefully soon, with UC-Davis. Anyway, SDS probably runs away with the Big West next year.

SDSU had no choice. They wanted to join Big East for football only, and the MWC responded by kicking them out of the league for the other sports if they did it.

And they went to the Big East for football anyways.

Now after adding Temple, SMU, Memphis, Boise State, San Diego State and Houston - the BIG EAST is considering changing their conference NAME

How about the "Big Joke"? Some of these new additions are great teams, but four time zones and a 60% or so turnover makes this conference realignment so silly. Therefore, I think that's an appropriate new name.

The evolving Western Athletic Conference will add 2 new members Cal State-Bakersfield (formerly an independent) and Utah Valley University (a former junior college that transitioned to D1 recently and has been a member of the Great West)-

Utah Valley University and Cal State-Bakersfield have accepted an invitation from the Western Athletic Conference to join the conference in time for the start of the 2013-14 season.

Oh my! Talk about teams ruining a conference RPI! What a joke.

I thought Western Kentucky might have been good for the Valley

WAC's sort of falling apart isn't it? I remember when they used to be the next big thing!
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

If they didn't play 1A or FBS or whatever they're calling it today football.

                          More conference changes-
East Tennessee State and Mercer are leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference and have agreed to join the Southern Conference, and VMI (of the Big South) is expected to officially join the SoCon tomorrow.
The Southern Conference announced on Thursday afternoon that have extended invitations to East Tennessee State, Mercer and VMI to join the conference on July 1st, 2014.

The Southern Conference is losing College of Charleston to the CAA and Davidson to the Atlantic 10.

The A-Sun losing ETSU & Mercer leaves them with just 8 members - they are looking for a couple teams who want to join the A-Sun to get membership back up to 10....
but their relatively new conference has been gaining success recently, making money, growing, and has gotten some huge boosts in publicity like FGCU making the Sweet 16.

Wonder how far they'd be willing to stretch their geography??
Currently their boundaries stretch all the way north to Northern Kentucky University.
The A-Sun could conceivably be an attractive spot for some of the lower end Horizon (Youngstown State?), OVC (Tenn Tech, Morehead, SIUE, Austin Peay, Tenn Martin?), or Summit (IUPUI?) teams.

here's a conference realignment story that involves high schools...some of which are familiar to basketball fans..

the Chicago area Catholic League that claims to be...
" the oldest continuous active high school (conference) in the country"

has added a few new members including non-Catholic members...
